Dit bier is een vreemde eend in de bijt van Brouwerij de Prael. Hoewel een Scotch ale past in de klassieke stijlen van bieren waar wij mee pronken, hebben wij hier een a-typisch draai aan gegeven. Niet alleen de rookmout maar zeker ook het ‘weizenbier- gist’ maken dit bier tot een avontuur.
This beer is something of a rare bird from Brouwerij de Prael. Even though Scotch Ale is a classic style of beer, we’ve given this one a distinctive twist. Brewed with smoked malt and also with our Weizen beer yeast, this beer is a real adventure.

Draught @ GEIB, Grande Esposizione Italiane della Birra 2012, Nuova Fiera di Roma, via Portuense 1645, Rome, Italy 00100.Light unclear medium amber orange colour with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, smoke - plastic, light to moderate hoppy. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, plastic smoke, plastic, caramel, sweet malt, fruity. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. OMG wat is dit, wat slecht ! licht amber/rood met minimaal witte kraag. aroma: gist, metaal zwak gerookt mout smaak: moutig, hop, sinasappel, citrus. ik vond de kruidencombinatie erg vervelend, lang bitter in de afdronk. jammer

Hazy amber color; small creamy head. Light aroma of cereals and malt, light vegetables, a bit meh. Some caramel flavor, sushi rice, sweetish, fruity, somehow metallic; ordinary bitterness.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra. Hazy amber with an off-white head. Malty smoky aroma. Fair amount of smoke in the taste too and more (roasted) malts along with some spicy notes. Quite interesting beer and also my first Scotch Ale.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, light yeasty and light caramelish. Bitter, toffee, caramelish and light phenolic. Dry, phenolic and bitter into the finish.

On tap at De Prael brewpub, after Rocco and Toontje Lager this should be the definitive version of their Scottish Ale. Hazy orange colour, white head. Aroma of sweet fruity malts, some yeast, light bubblegum, candy. Flavour is medium sweet, fruity, almost herbal bitterness underneath, no smoke as in the Rocco, only a tiny hint in the finish, some candy, firm bitter light grainy and herbal/grassy finish. Light to medium-bodied. Less sweet, more bitter, and less smokey than their Rocco imo, which I preferred.
