Bottle from St Peter's Brewery shop, South Elmham. Extremely dark with a small off-white head. Dark malty lower bitterness brew packing in plenty of flavour. Hops can be found, as can a light sweetness, its strength is not a huge factor but provides a good body to the ale.

Bottle online from Beers Of Europe. Pours black with a one finger thick creamy beige head. Aromas of fruit cake, chocolate, caramel, brown bread and hints of molasses. Taste has more fruit cake, chocolate, caramel, brown bread and treacle. Some plums, spice and more dry dark fruits on the finish. Sweet but not overly so and nicely balanced. A touch of warming alcohol. Full body with fairly low carbonation and smooth oily mouthfeel. Nice beer and definitely a Winter warmer ale.

Bottle from Suffolk Food Hall. Aroma is rich yet light (oxymoron). Chocolate and malts. Dark and inky. Cola tint. Thin microbubbled foamy light beige head. Very Porter like... chocolate, coffee and tangy sour berries. Medium bodied. Creamy. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Enjoyable for sure.

Look: foggy deep brown, ruby highlights, moderate beige head of medium retention. Aroma: toasted malts, pie crust, chocolate, plums, hop. Taste: light sweet and light to medium bitter. Dark malt, chocolate, pie crust, English hop. Palate: medium minus body. Appropriate carbonation. Summary: good hopping and ballance. Pleasant one.

In a nice bottle: a beautiful black beer with a brown, medium-lasting but sticky foam. Its aroma is not very pronounced, fresh earthy, moderately roasted malt. Rather, it is malted. Medium-bodied, well-drinkable brown. I can imagine: sipping on an English pub ... Oily, real English brown beer. Nevertheless, it is not outstanding.
***

Very dark, just traces of a head. Malty, sugary and syrupy aroma with some coffee. Sweet, but not as sweet as you might expect after the aroma. Roasted malt, laurel, hint of licorice. Chocolate. Only medium bodied. Good enough, but not great.
