Dark bock beer has already been brewed in the Archduke Brewery in Żywiec in 1860. It is made of water, hops and three types of malt: Pilsner, Munich, and caramel malt. It has a dark ruby colour and a mild, rich and luscious flavour.

Cocoa and raisins aroma, quite pronounced. Mahogany, thick tan head. Prune and raisin flavor, minor notes of cocoa and charred oak underneath. Plum and charcoal finish. Full body. Deeply layered and robust porter. Really better with a little warmth. Top drawer.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BB 09.05.2015, at Gastropub Tuulensuu, 20140808) The beer poured clear and almost black. Its head was small and white. Aroma had chocolate, burnt malts, sweetness and grass. Palate was full bodied, warming and slightly oily with medium carbonation. Favours were burnt malts, chocolate, liquorice, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty, sweet and bitter. A tasty strong porter in which alcohol was quite well hidden.

Bottle from gas pump. Aroma dark malts, chocolate, caramel. Taste is rather bitter. Dark malts and a bit of hops. The hops is showing through in moderate intensity in the finish. All in all not a world class, but worth a try, I like it in a way.

Taste has some caramel, brown sugar, dark chocolate and malts. The flavour is well balanced but with a lot of presence of the alcohol. Aftertaste is sweet and dry. Next one please!

500 ml bottle into snifter, best before 9/28/2013. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, raisin, prune, brown sugar, molasses, light herbal, and roast/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and moderate fruity yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, dark bread, raisin, prune, brown sugar, molasses, herbal, and roast/yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, raisin, prune, brown sugar, molasses, herbal, and roast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and earthy hop flavors; with a a great malt/yeast balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, smooth, and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Baltic porter. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Nice Baltic porter that hides the abv fairly well, but leaves just enough to let you know that this is to be taken seriously. Lovely chocolate and roasted nut aroma and flavor, thinner than I would have expected. Nice finish that leaves behind a taste of resiny hops.
