Hearty malts meld with a subtle balance of hops to create a dark and nurturing ale of comfort and complexity. Hints of bittersweet chocolate and espresso fill the tongue, finishing with just a touch of smoke. Not too sweet or filling, this versatile dark ale dissuades the notion that a darker beer is a stronger beer. Five varieties of roasted malts are the source of Porter’s dark color and rich taste, while two varieties of hops bring a mellow bite to this deep toasty ale.

Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer, the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling

bottled. Pours dark brown to black, lots of malts and a fair bit of smokiness. Pretty good porter.

Aroma is very roasted, some nice coffee notes, and some bitter chocolate, even some slight dark fruit notes. Flavour is very roasty, lots of nice malt, and a nice hop bit in the end adding soem nice bitterness. A very well made, and easy drinking porter.

Draft at Craft. Pours nice and dark with a small creamy head. Smells very oaty with a little bit of kahlua. HInt of sweetness but not at all sickly. Reminds me of a tunnocks caramel wafer. Very nice!

Black as the night with a frothy tan head (that gives in a bit to fast). Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium + body and smooth carbonation level. Ok sweetness with a fine bitterness to back it up. A bit oily texture. Cold coffee, chocolate, toffee, roast and bready flavor. Ok complexity..

Translucent cola brown color. Large frothy tan head. Mild roasted malt nose is somewhat subdued. Soft, roasted malt flavor has notes of chocolate and toasted nuts. Caramel and coffee in mid taste. Subtle spicy hops in finish. Tasty.

Pours a dark brown from a bottle. Toasty, coffee and chocolate aroma and flavor. Rather sweet. I feel like a lot of porters have lots of effervescence in the mouth that reminds me of soda, not sure why, but this one has it too. Okay beer.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark reddish brown with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is big chocolate, light smoked malt. The flavour is moderate sweet light bitter with a light, slightly watery liqourice malt, dry coffee, light chocolate palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle in pint glass from Downtown Discount Beverage in Dover, NH. Aroma is light bready malt with hint of grassy hops. Appearance is very dark mahogany--almost opaque, with surprisingly robust sparkle and 1 finger-width foamy head and nice minimal lacing. Taste is more lightly sweet than lightly bitter with a lingering pleasant long bitter finish. Palate is medium bodied with thin texture, average carbonation. Overall, I’ve come to expect a lot from this brewer and thought they’d knock this out of the park. It is OK but there are a lot of better porters out there.
