Hearty malts meld with a subtle balance of hops to create a dark and nurturing ale of comfort and complexity. Hints of bittersweet chocolate and espresso fill the tongue, finishing with just a touch of smoke. Not too sweet or filling, this versatile dark ale dissuades the notion that a darker beer is a stronger beer. Five varieties of roasted malts are the source of Porter’s dark color and rich taste, while two varieties of hops bring a mellow bite to this deep toasty ale.

Bottle: Very deep amber coloured and - presumably - hazy with a big rocky tanned head; slightly sweetish roast-malty nose with a tinge of molasses, dried fruits and leather; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, a bit fizzy; robust - drier and more bitter - finish: molasses, roasted malt and a tinge of smoke. Tastes a bit like a diluted Imperial Stout......

Bottle from De Molen bottle shop. Black beer with lasting tan head. Good choc aroma, some hop and some yeast, which is good. Very choccy and malty in the mouth. Pretty good intensity after drinking some British normal bitters as I have this evening. Tiny bit of plastic on aroma and in flavour. It has some bizarre satsuma fruit too. God knows where that comes from. Choc does come through. Doesn’t go too well with the pork loin steak sandwich I was eating. Fine, but nothing special.

Dark brown color, huge off-white cloudy head (beer was exploiding from the bottle). Light chocolate, chocolate beans in the nose, some cardboard. This porter is quite light session porter: flavor has some sweetness, coffee beans, light cardboardish maltyness. Quite plain, not complex as description says. Probably should be sampled as fresh as possible.

355ml bought at Barley Wine, Copenhagen. Rocky, fawn coloured head covering a deep, rosewood body. Smell of espresso-like malts and herbal dryness. Coffee, cocoa and chocolate flavour leads the way to hints of dry, herbal maltiness, ending with a touch of yeasty bitterness. Smooth in the mouth (Tromsø, 26.09.2009).

35cl bottle. very dark amber, looks black until you shine light through it, larghe fluffy offwhite or light brown head. dry cofee and hoppy aroma, faint brown sugar, caramel, chocolate. roasted grains. aroma is rather mild. flavor is slighly sourish, roasted grains, licorice, ends dry and roasted. the sourness resembles raisins, perhaps more a dark fruits flavor than an actual sour flavor.

Bottle. Dry, slightly roasted, slightly bitter and yeasty aroma. Flavor also dry and roasted bitter with coffee and chocolate hints. Not much sweetness, and also body rather light with high caronation. Ok but the malt is not very impressive.

Bottled. Rubyish amber colour, huge brown head. Aroma is nuts, roasted malts, coffee and some slight notes of chocolate. Flavour is roasted malts, nuts as well as quite big on the ashy notes. Also some caramel malts as well as mild notes of liquorice.

Bottle. It’s a dark, dark, reddish brown beer with a minimal beige head. The aroma is big but not intense, with charcoal, dark coffee, cocoa and a faint chalky, milky touch in the background. Wonder if an infection is going on, even though the pour didn’t give that impression. The flavor suggests the same, still it’s pretty damn good, with lots of coffee, chocolate, heavily roasted malts and some hoppy and roasted bitterness. Full-bodied, quite smooth and pleasantly carbonated. The finish is lasting, with the hoppy bitterness lasting for the longest time, and there’s also lots of dry, dark coffee and some sweeter chocolate. Even though there’s some disturbing aromas and flavors, it’s a quite lovely beer. Would certainly like more of this one. 090825

Bottle. Dark brown color, pours a huge head. Milk chocolate, raoast and ash in the aroma. Creamy flavor with ash, roast and chocolate. Soft ashy roastbitter aftertaste. Well made porter.
