1/IV/16 - 25cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: 17/IX/17 (2016-300)

Clear blond beer, small irregular white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of ripe banana, baked banana, sweet, little funky. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: surprisingly sour start, citric acidity, bit artificial banana flavour, very sugary sweetness. Aftertaste: citric, banana candy, lemony, little bitter, some green banana. Way better than expected. Was really fearing the worst, here.

Apparently not entirely the same as Chapeau Tropical - I had both years ago, but never side by side, so I am a bit unclear as to what exactly the difference is. This one had a peach blonde colour and thin, off-white head, very sweet banana nose and frankly not much else, though a faint lemony touch is there (a distant echo of the actual lambic buried under sugar and extracts); same for the taste, blandly sweet, banana ice cream, sugary but fortunately no ascorbic acid, thinnish mouthfeel, little bit bready but the artificial banana taste dominates the whole palate, with a cloyingly sweet finish. Weird and not ’beery’, let alone lambic, but may have certain purpose to certain people, I guess.

330 ml bottle from Merkur Hoher Markt, Vienna.
Clear, light amber body, with a medim, unstable, creamy, off-white head.
Aroma of sweet banana and not much else.
Taste is very sweet, a bit sour, a bit tart, with banana, sweet apples, yeast.
Medium, quite creamy mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation.
Finishes sweet, a bit sour, a bit salty, with apples and banana.

My first banana beer, not my cup of tea. Although also a bit sour, much too sweet for my liking. Tastes like a "Lambic Radler" to me.

21/03/2015 @home, 25 cl bottle (best before 06/2014) from brother-in-law. Orange colour with no head. As like a fresh one, aroma has mostly banana and yeast. Taste has banana, grains and yeast as for a fresh one the taste is banana all-over and is sticky sweet.

Nice sourish-fresh banana nose. The beer starts sourish-fresh, smooth, nice natural banana taste. Fresh, slightly sourish, not too sweet. Nice fresh banana aroma, fruity, great sourish lambic in the aftertaste, wood, nice banana that fits in great, round and very refreshing. Great for a sweetened Lambic!

Bottle. Pale gold color, fast dying bubbly head. The aroma should some promise and then went south very fast. Nose is ripe banana peels and candy sugar. And a Laffy Taffy candy note.

Flavor is artificial banana runts, sour lemon hints, sugar and saccharine with a cloying finish. So artificial it is simply bad, really gross.

Bottle shared. Pours clear golden with a small off white head. Aroma of sickening fake cloying banana, rotten fruit, garbage, almost makes me gag smelling it. Flavor is heavy sweet. This is disgusting.

Bottle in the car while cruising out of Belgium - March 2013. Pours clear gold with a white foam head. Sugary, rotting banana in the aroma. Hugely sweet flavor, syrupy, with lots of fake, cloying banana essence, rotten fruits, sugar syrup. Light bodied with average carbonation and viscous, syrupy texture. Cloying finish with more artificial banana, straight sugar, light sweat. Bad. Very bad.

Again a weird concoction by De Troch, this time banana-flavored (and the only lambic-based fruit beer with banana apart from the closely related Chapeau Banana, as far as I know). Thin, off-white head, dirty yellow blonde colour; aroma and taste one-sidedly dominated by banana, cloyingly sweet, lambic hardly noticeable. Totally bizarre but I can understand there is an audience for this kind of ’beer’. Fortunately I kind of like banana flavour so this suited me better than the peach, mirabelle or lemon versions.
