Caramel, roasted, black and chocolate malts provide an explosion of coffee like flavors.

The strong espresso character comes from the addition of espresso beans to the boil.

Notes of vanilla, dark fruit , cocao and chocolate.

The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base.

Pitch black color, big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted bitterness, black currants, dark fruits.

Hop: Chinook, Kent Golding

Malt: Pale, Crystal, Black, Chocolate
Others: Roasted Barley, Coffee beans
SRM: 100

Bottle from Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Clear, dark, reddy brown. Thin, tan head. Dark, malty, fruitiness. Liquorice. Light cocoa. Hint of coffee. Taste is fruity dry. Palate is more of that. Not as full bodied as I expected. Dry, light bitter finish, with more of the liquorice.

330 ml bottle into snifter, bottled in 4/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big roasted coffee bean, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light char, caramel, light molasses, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and coffee notes; with great strength. Taste of roasted coffee bean, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light char, caramel, light molasses, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, roast, toast, dark bread, caramel, light molasses, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/roasted malt and coffee flavors; with a great roasted sweetness/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy, smooth, and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent coffee stout. All around great balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt and coffee flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle offered @ home, picked up @ Argonaut Denver a week or two back. Pours a deep brown appearance with a lasting, creamy, dark brown head. The coffee in the nose is phenomenal. Roasted but not overly bitter or acidic. A touch of smoke. Chocolate and vanilla. Fairly soft mouth feel. Medium bodied. Flavor really has a bit roasted coffee flavor without being stupidly overdone like many other coffee stouts. Maybe a touch of fruit, especially near the finish. A slight hint of anise and a little milky. This bad boy fucken kicks some serious ass.

330ml bottle at home. Black color with lasting beige head. Aroma is full of coffee. There is also some cocoa and vanilla and some notes of alcohol. Alcohol is 7% abv according to the bottle’s label and not 7.5%. Taste starts sweet, roasted malty with chocolate and it ends with bitter coffee. Medium body, sticky with average carbonation.

Tap. Pours opaque black, large brown head, nice lacing. Aroma is strong espresso, roasty, little else. Flavor is strong coffee, bit of ashtray, light sweet, medium bitter, light acidic. Wow, you need to love coffee to appreciate this one. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, lingering bitter finish.

Nose is vanilla, dark fruit and very, very strong coffee bean which dominates. Taste leads with vanilla which is quickly swamped with espresso, then dark chocolate before dark fruits peak through. Mouthfeel is silky. It’s a really nice beer, often when using espresso in the boil brewers have a bland base and there is no depth, this is different and is very good indeed.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on a cold February night, after a hard day at work. Needed a treat...and this is it. Appearance is a murky thick black with a moderate tan head that nicely dissipates. Aroma is very rich in dark chocolate and espresso coffee, with notes of licorice, faint plum. Taste is rich and decadent, thick chocolate and bitter coffee. I would say the licorice comes out more in the flavor. Very good stuff, not sure if I’ll have it again due to the price, but I’m still happy that I was able to try this.

Bottle @SBWF 2013
Opaque black color, good beige-brown head. Aroma of coffee beans. Medium-bodied. Coffee, coffee beans, some dark-chocolate. A bit light palate for this ABV and this kind of beer. Ok coffee bean beer.
