The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average to huge, firm, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma with notes of mocha, chocolate, nougat. Taste is dry, roasty dark malty, espresso notes, subtle sweetness in between, a touch of black currant; lasting finish with still intense coffee notes. Superb.

Bottle. Black beer with a strong light brown head. The aroma is lightly roasted with a hint of malt, and the flavour is gently bitter with quite a high degree of roasted and burnt ness. Overall a nice stout but not strong enough for espresso. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle thanks to Jmgreenuk. Pours almost black with a small beige head. Aroma is big espresso, roast, some dark chocolate and a little dark fruit. Flavour is light moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black with a generous creamy fawn head. Nose - roasted coffee beans with some creaminess. Taste - dark chocolate and coffee. Palate - medium to full bodied with a slightly overly rich finish. Overall - the problem with this style of beer is that the coffee dominates too much.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown pour with medium tan head, expresso coffee aroma, big coffee taste must have been involved after brew, some chocolate and smokiness , amazed this has a 99 it’s competent but not amazing.
