Belgian-Style Ale Fermented with Pure Raspberries

Blushing Monk is brewed with a ridiculous amount of raspberries and with a Belgian yeast strain that keeps our head cellar operator from sleeping for a week. It pours a stunning deep berry red and, at 9.2% ABV, has a surprising kick. The perfect dessert beer, it can be enjoyed on its own or paired with fresh cheeses, fruit, cakes and more.

Flaska från SB. Djupt rubinröd vätska med tunt rödfärgat skum. Bärig doft med tydliga toner av vildhallon. Saftig i smaken. Neutral beska som hyvlar av sockertoppen på ett bra sätt. Utan beskan hade den troloigen varit olidligt söt. Eldig munkänsla utan att alkoholen blir påträngande. Lång eftersmak.

Tap@ viisi penniä. Cherry red colored. Raspberry lemonade (muumi limu), sweetness, cherry notes. Flavor has cherry candies, raspberries, sweetness. Juicy, refreshing, but overly sweet. Abv hidden.

750 ml bottle, as Founders Blushing Monk 2015, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.2%. Beautiful clear red colour, moderate pinkish-white head. Lovely and intense aroma of ripe raspberries and raspberry candy. Sweet flavour (too sweet for some, I’m sure - but not for me), raspberries and raspberry candy galore, some tart hints and very moderate bittering hops the finish. The alcohol is well hidden, dangerously drinkable. A fine dessert beer. I was about to write "the big bottle is for sharing", but then I noticed it was empty - and I’m here alone. Oh well ....

Bottled:
Wonderful beer; beautiful red color. Inviting raspberry aroma. Tart, yet soft mouth feel. Good raspberry flavor with sweet Belgian ale taste in the background. Very well balanced.

(Keg at Viisi Penniä, 20150502) The beer poured deep red and clear. Its head was medium sized and lightly pink. Aroma had raspberries, tartness and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were raspberries, Belgian style yeast, mild sourness, tartness, sweetness and low bitterness. Aftertaste was long-lasting but also mild and contained raspberries, sourness, tartness and low bitterness. A well done brew and pleasant way of using raspberries.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Almost clear burgundy colour, small head. Huge balsamic raspberry aroma. Very sweet with medium-full body and rounded, somewhat syrupy mouthfeel. Some tartness from the raspberries, but not enough to balance the syrupy sweetness. The flavour is entirely dominated by raspberries. A one dimensional beer cocktail.

Bottle. Red deep color. Intensive strawberry and cherry aroma. Medium-bodied. Very nice sweet rasberry juice. Slightly tart. Nicely drinkable. Of course price/quality.
