To honor our city's history, Baxter has named its winter stout in celebration of this event. Phantom Punch is a Foreign Extra Stout with a hearty 6.8% ABV. Its deep black hue and rich tan head complement the full, but not overly heavy, body. Roasted and toasted malts dominate the flavor, with hints of caramel and strong notes of chocolate.
Roasted cocoa nibs reinforce the malty chocolate, while real vanilla beans suggest a touch of sweetness without weighing down the brew. Lastly, Phantom Punch has just enough British hops to balance the stout's maltiness.

Pours a nice black-brown from a tap. Aroma of coffee grinds occurs in the mouth as well, with the addition of some baker’s chocolate, bitter in a pleasant way. Good beer.

Can pour into tulip glass from Greg & Jane’s Beer and Wine. Appearance is opaque black with finger-width light brown foamy head with poor retention and fair sudsy lacing. Aroma is subtle roasted malts, earthy hops and light chocolate and vanilla. Taste is strong roasted malts, chocolate and vanilla; balanced between sweet and bitter. Palate is full bodied with thick texture, lively carbonation and crisp, balanced finish between sweet and bitter. Overall, a really strong beer across many dimensions. Carbonation is a little too strong.

12 ounce can. Opaque dark brown color. Large thick tan head. Rich malty aroma, redolent of cocoa and java. Lots of roasted malt flavor with notes of cocoa, black cherries and coffee. Resiny hops balance this nicely.

Can: Black, with a slightly purplish, dark tan head. Light, smoky chocolate scent. Slightly over-cooked coffee, bitter chocolate taste... Light ashy bitter. Not bad, but pretty weak and watery overall. Needs a bit more punch....and less phantom.

From sampler pack: pours black with a nice creamy head. Aroma is vanilla and cocoa. Taste is a little sweet but not too muchly. There be some tasty roast but again nothing that is too overwhelming. Basically this is a nicely balanced stout that hides it true size a little.
