Pour is a brown with a large tan head. Aroma is yeast and spice with an intense candi sugar. Flavor is again candi sugar but not to the extreme as in the aroma, also i get some molasses and caramel with a touch of dark fruit. An above par example of the style and something you could sip on for a long afternoon sitting outside on a chilly night.

Labeled as Grotten Brown, at 6.7% abv. Aroma is moderately malty with a bit of grassy hops, light yeast and some corinander. Large, frothy, light brown head, which diminishes into white caps and a ring. Muddy, dark brown body. Taste is water and a bit bland for St. Bernardus. Yeasty and somewhat boring finish. Watery mouthfeel, lively carbonation, and a copper feel to the finish.

0.25l Bottle. Blueberry, caramel, brown sugar and date aroma. Hazy red, off-white layer. Brown sugar edges, almond, the fruits to a lesser degree, somewhat dry, finishing on a metallic date-sweet note. Mellow, light sparkly mouthfeel. Pleasant but not overwhelming.

Called Grotten Flemish Brown Cave Aged, on tap at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore during Belgian fest. Translucent, deep brown with a slim white head. Fruity, slightly rummy, malty aroma. Flavor is of dark fruit, plums, dark candy, grains, cheese and rather earthy. Texture is creamy and a little chewy. Cave aged? I guess, but it was alright no matter where it was aged.

75 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a lacing tan head. Light yeast, caramel malt and slight woody aroma. Flavour is light acidic, woody, caramel malt with a very controlled sweetness and brett note. Complex fruity, malty and yeasty brew. Light note of dried fruit. Lingering caramel malt and yeasty finish.

Bottle. Poured dark bronze. Took a while to tell that given it’s nearly entirely head. Foamy, but quick dissipating. Good lacing. Yeasty aroma with sour citrusy notes. Taste is more of same. This tastes like it will get old quickly (like, by the end of the bottle), but it is interesting.

25/10 0.33 l bottle at Hopdevil. Poured dark reddish brown colored body with big brownish head. Aroma is a sourish with caramel and fruity, primarily orange, then also some dark tropical fruits. Flavor is better, quite full and fruity as well. Chocolate felt inside, caramel also. Aftertaste is short, sweetish, very pleasant with oily texture both in the glass and on palate. Very nice beer, thanks Petra for choosing this one as well.

Hazy brown with medium head. Aroma has yeast, fruits and spices. Same goes for the flavor with a bitter end. I don’t get this one.
