On tap at 3 Floyd’s brewpub - Pours dark brown with a long lasting head. It has a nice, malty aroma and a caramel malt flavor with subdued dark fruit notes. It’s smooth and a little tart with a medium body and a mildly bitter finish.

Dark brown with white head. Very sour and fresh yet still it has some sweetness. Nutty. Earthy/woody tones Very live carbonation. A fine lasting finish!

Bottle. Chestnut thin beige head. Yeasty, spicey. Caramel and yeast in mouth with a lemony finish which is odd for a beer of this colour. Toasty toffee aroma. Some hop. Full in mouth. Excellent malt in mouth with hop/yeast finish. Good beer.

Bottle: Poured a muddy brown color ale with a medium head with pretty good retention. Aroma of caramel malt and slightly funky Belgian yeast is quite evident. Caramel malt with some spices dominated the taste at first and then the yeast signature shows up with a slightly funky feel. Body is quite full but could have been fuller and carbonation is perfect. IMHO, a bit more alcohol and body would do wonder for this beer.

Cloudy brown with fluffy, inviting head. Aroma is strong — spicy clove and nutmeg and wood with just a hint of metal. The flavor is equally big — clove, apple, cherry and wood. There is a slight peppery taste as well. The mouthfeel is fizzy with a short to moderate finish that presents a subtle tartness. Different and tasty and pleasant. Would not hesitate buying again.

Bottle purchased 2004 at Whole Foods, Chicago. Hey, it’s my 750th rating, so let’s rate something from a 750 ml bottle. And that means Belgian! Pours a deep brown with golden highlights. Rocky ecru head fed by streams of bubble. Smells sweet and malty, with a touch of brett. Taste is nice, crisp golden malt. Sweet, but without the usual candi sugar overload. Alcohol warming builds very slowly. Light suggestions of brandy or sherry. Bubbly continues well down the bottle, making it pretty filling. Should be enjoyed with a good meal.

Mmmm..delicious cave. This is a good but not excellent dubbel. The aroma has carmel, dried apples, and malt. . Very dark brown and cloudy. No head at all, and very little sediment. Flavor is sweet malt and some fruit, as well as surprising smoke in considerable quantity, with an earthy quality as well. Heavy palate. Sampled on draught at De Garre in Bruges, March 2007. Score raised. Previous 8/4/7/5/15

Bottled. Dark brown colour, foamy big head. Sweet fruity aroma with hints of yeast and alcohol. Very spiced flavour, with hints of soap and some alcohol. Weird flavour, aroma more promising than flavour... It’s a quite hard one to "understand", and didn’t.

Ruby brown colour. Slightly musty, corky aroma. Mature, rich, wine-like taste. Fizzy on the tongue but not in the mouth. Perfumed sweetness leading to more bitter aftertaste.
