This beer was originally developed by Pierre Celis after his return from the United States. The St. Bernardus Brewery brewed the beer from 2001 till 2016.

Pours reddish orange, a little cloudy and no yeast. Sweet smell witha a touch of apple and fig. Easy drinking and smooth, a good brown ale.

Had this one for the first time on draft at the Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh. The beer poured a very dark brown color with a large light tan head. The aroma is faintly sweet and has cinnamon and nutmeg elements lightly underneath. The flavor was sour tang with a hint of vinegar and some light ripe fruits towards the finish.

Bottle. Reddish=amber brown beer with a big beige head. Fruity (stone fruit) and malt aroma with some spice and yeast. Yeasty malt flavor with some dusty/earthiness and some background fruit. Depth in the malt. Nice complexity, but very drinkable.

Dark copper colour. Lively big off-white head that disappears quickly. Has a spicy aroma and also hints of yeast and dried fruits. Malty and sweet taste. Taste of caramel and and hops leaving you with a little bitter and spicy aftertaste. A vert nice beer.

Big white cream head topping wine-red hazy body. Aroma is jelly of wild berries. Big taste that’s one great lump of stale hops, old wood, and something musty; aftertaste is mostly bitterness and stale hops. Strangely soft and watery mouthfeel. Really dominated by the hops, but it takes a while to taste it. Good, but not the revelation I’d been led to expect.

Rerate: 330 ml bottle, brewed by Br. St. Bernhard. ABV is 6.5%. Will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Gusher bottle,. Hazy brown beer, large off-white head. Not much acidity now, but still an excellent aroma and flavour. Notes of brown kandij sugar, in addition to the elements mentioned below. Lovely beer! Original rating: 750 ml bottle, corked "champagne" style. "Best before" date 23.03.2001! - brewed by De Smedt. Cloudy brown colour, large and lingering light tan head. Excellent vinous aroma, oak, red berries, leather. Pleasant oaky flavour with a nice acidity, vinous character. Notes of spices, well balanced hops. Very nice "cave beer".

(Bottle 33 cl) This version brewed by "De Smedt" in Opwijk. Dark brown with a bubbly, huge head and a high carbonation. Lovely, spicy nose - almost Orval-like - with a pronounced, malty sweetness without ever cloying. Subdued bitterness. A very wellmade beer. 210501

Pretty old bottle at Kulminator - still brewed at the original De Smedt plant Muddy dark brown; medium tan-cream head. Grapes & old wine, nutty and flowery aromas. Rosewater, bitter cardboard, wood; sweet and tart at the same time, biscuit but also dark cake and malts. Bit thin texture, probably a bit oxydized, strangely ending filling in. Stands up quite good - which is logical for a cave-aged beer. May have lost a bit of its original complexity, but not much. Younger beer, St. Bernard Very fruity and yeasty. Bit of Cola aroma. Dark fruit & mushrooms. Very fruity flavour, ending on burnt/roasted notes, that gradually dwindly leaving more plain sweetness. Still more complex than most beers in this style.
