Dark Island reserve is a rich strong Orcadian Ale. After a gentle fermentation at our brewery, the beer is finished in old oak casks formerly used to mature fine scotch malt whisky. This unhurried process creates a timeless classic full of fruit, spice, oak and roast malt flavours.

Bottle. Pours brown with very little head. Semi sweet taste but a bit thin and boozy dominated by the whiskey. Dull...

Bottle. (thanks SirLimpsalot) Dark brown with a small tan head. This was a great one although I was a little drunk. Sweet with dark fruit, malt, some vanilla and alcohol. Very smooth mouth feel.

750ml bottle, thanks to Stuart. Pours chestnut with a creme head. The nose has malt, figs and whisky. The taste has something tangy orange at the start then bitter chocolate. The palate has a full body, a tangy and rich middle section and quite a relatively elegant finish given the alcohol. Overall, a really interesting beer that would work well with a rich pudding.

Bottle shared at the 6th annual Richmond Industry Gathering, 11/27/11. 2008 vintage. Pours a dark brown color with lots of visible carbonation but not much of a head. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke, peat, earthy notes and chocolate. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, smoke, earthy notes and bitter hops. Full bodied.

Ett öl med fantastisk doft av sherry, torkad frukt, lätt vinös. Lättare munkänsla och smakbild än vad doften lovade, sötsyrlig, fatkaraktär. Riktigt gott.

0.75l bottle courtesy of Kai-Sindre and shared with him and ClubGonzo. Have some high expectations to this bottle due to some high hyping done by one of the people around this table so here we go! This majestic looking bottle pours a pitch black body with a really nice caramel-reddish bubbly and fading head. Aroma is kinda sweet with some vanilla, dark Belgian chocolate and it got some woody notes when it got some temperature. Really full-bodied, has soft carbonation and a thick oily mouthfeeling. The first flavors that hits the palate are big and salty licorice. Don't think I've ever tasted anything like this. There's also whisky notes, wood and notes of vanilla. It's really warming this, and it ends in a fantastic burning throat aftertaste. One helluva complex beer! Thanks for sharing Kai-Sindre! Can't wait to get my hand on one of these just for myself.

Bottle. Opaque, black. Thin veneer of a head. There’s a very assertive aroma, lots of whisky, dark fruity hints of oxidation. Sweet, vinous start, fading to a chocolatey mild espresso, finishing with more of the dark fruits, some sticky sugars and subtle wood accents. Very nice beer.
