50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a golen amber glare and a light tan head. Light dark fruity aroma and mild malty aroma. Flavour is roasted mild and mild smoked. Smooth and roasted acidic at once. A bit thin bodied. Light smoked note into the finish.

Bottle, Tesco, Helensburgh. Poured a very deep dark brown with a tan head Aroma of roasty malt, nuts, hop, cinnamon, fig. Flavour was nutty, dark chocolate and malty with a great toasty coffee, and brown sugar finish. Really well balanced. Not quite up to the cask version but still good.

This is the fifth beer in our June 11th Old Ale Blind Tasting. It finished in 9th place.

Pours dark brown with lasting mocha head. The aroma has a nice smoke component but the rest of it is tough to pin down. I get licorice and caramel mixed together with faint maple smoke house bacon. The taste enters kind of thin with some faint smoke followed by mild notes of wood, malty sweetness, caramel, a decent level of dark fruity esters and some earthy tasting licorice. Sessionable smooth and light for the style.

Bottle @ Aarhus beerfestival 2008. Softer than the reserve. More english style old ale indeed. From cask this was delicious, but bottled is a not that interesting however. --- Beer merged from original tick of Dark Island (Cask) on 07 Apr 2006 at 11:11 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Original review text: Cask, Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. Dark color, brownish head. Rich aroma of roasted malt, bit nutty. Roasted malty taste, fairly bitter, licorice, some coffee, nutty, some chocolat. Better than Guinness!

Pours dark brown with light tan head. Aroma of smoked malts. Mildly sweet smoked malt flavor. It seems like this could be considered a smoked beer. Full body with minimal carbonation and a slick mouthfeel.

liked this very much. How is this not a smoked? There is smoke all over the place. Some peat as well. Medium sweet malt, and like red wine. Low carbonation and lightly spiced with an herbal, wildflower character. Thick and black. I found the alcohol to be entirely hidden and I thought this was about 1/2 has strong as it really is.
