2009 Bottle: VERY hazy, chewy, chunky brown with muddy highlights and a thin, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of pit fruits, raisins, figs, cherries, chocolate and a ton of malt and earth - potent. Full-bodied; Deep strong sweet flavour of pit fruits and cherries with a little oak and vanilla topping it all of with a lot of alcohol noticeable. Aftertaste is strong and potent with lingering pit fruit complexity with a little smoked peat coming in near the very end. Overall, a nice and refreshing beer perfect for the wintertime and a very thick, luscious feel. I sampled this 300 mL bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 04-September-2010 sampled at home in Washington on 11-March-2011.

Bottle. Pours a hazy brown with a slight orange hue and a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of sweet grains, caramel, candied sugar and sweet fruits. Flavor starts with very sweet grains and candied sugar with a bit of backing alcohol. A bit too sweet for my liking.

Pour is a dark brown with a small white head. Aroma is lots of raisins and brown sugar. Flavor is a heavy raisin juice with some sugar and molasses. Tasty but very heavy with all the dark fruit showing up. Alcohol is no problem.

330mL bottle poured into a mini Duvel tulip. Yeah, this beer is a bit of a miss, maybe just way too young, may need more time. The beer has not come together, lots of alcohol floating around. Its spicy and lots of fruit, some muddled flavors. Just not cohesive, I can see a good beer coming out of this, elements are there but its messy now.

2010 edition, bottle from De Bierkoning. Deep brown color with little beige head, not highly carbonated. Aroma’s are malt, sweetbread & roast and hop-aromatic. Flavor is rather (but not overly) sweet, a bit spicy and roasty. Mild bitter finish. Rather nice.

Bottle at Arendsnest in Amsterdam, November 2010. Dark brown with a small head. Aroma of dried fruit, spices, caramel. Sweet taste with some soap. Also nuts, spices and dried fruit. Some warming alcohol, not bad but not too exciting either.

Bottled (BB 08/2010)
Murky brown color, small beige head. Chocolaty, yeasty aroma with some alcohol. Caramelly, chocolaty, a bit nutty flavor, finish and aftertaste has bitterness & alcohol. Quite caramelly and alcoholic.
