Our Grand Prestige, brewed with four different malts, is also described as barley wine. In the ripe, full taste, bitter and sweet are remarkably well-distinguishable.
The taste of Hertog Jan Grand Prestige is appreciated by connoisseurs and enthusiasts far beyond our borders, as proven by, among other things, the golden awards at various renowned beer competitions.
As Grand Prestige is stored for longer, that wonderful taste develops even further. After a few years, the taste is reminiscent of a beautiful old port wine.

Bottle - Sweet marzipan and caramel. Clear copper with a small white head. Sweet, light booze, banana and caramel.

300mL bottle, pours a deep dark a mahogany with a small beige head. Nose brings out dark fruits, caramel bready malt, some light liqueur, and Belgian yeast. Flavour is along the same lines, with dark dried fruits, toffee, caramel bready malt, and Belgian yeast. Nice dark fruits and toffee character on the finish. Far from the most complex quad out there, but this certainly works. Good stuff.

Bottle at home, dark brown beer, small head. Aroma is malt, caramel, roast, dark fruit. Taste is the same, some bitterness, sweet, very nice.

Sampled at a bottle share at Goose island's offices. A barrel-aged quad. Am I lucky or what? Too bad this is toward the end of a long session. What I have written down says this is sweet, and plenty oaky.

Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is donker roodbruin bier met een stevige schuimkraag. De geur van drop, zoethout en mout. Volle zoete smaak van caramel en pruimen. Nasmaak is licht bitter maar is wel snel weg.
