Named after a famous local mountain – Schiehallion (pronounced ‘She-hal-i-on’) presented a huge challenge – creating a Pilsner the Czech would be proud of. Brewed with lager malt and Hersbrücker and Challenger hops. Fermented with a lager yeast.

Cask at The Shrewsbury Hotel. Has quite a distinct taste for a lager, mixing in a little sweetness to the malts whilst retaining a bitter character.

Slightly cloudy sandalwood yellow. Aroma is fruity, hoppy, light. Taste is a heavenly bitter lemon mixed with sweetish hops. Turns to bitter on the tongue. It’s lager, Jim, but not as we know it.

Cask at Sheffield Tap. Clear golden colour with a tight, white lasting head. Smells of lager, funnily enough. Tastes initially sweet. Then malty. Then dry. There’s an alcoholic fruitiness in there too.

Svært fyldig og maltrik med en klar kjeksaktig karakter. Meget drikkends øl som burde gå utmerket til mat.

500ml bottle - Golden yellow body, with a thick white head. Pleasant aroma of toasted malt, floral, light spice, grass, melons and citrus. The taste is biscuit, floral, lemon, hay and grass, with a light citric-bitter (almost grapefruit) finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Nice. Be interested to see if this is the best Premium Lager I’ve rated.

Tap at the Crown Rivers (JDW) LHR T5 - 03/11/12. Clear pale golden, thin off white head which soon clears to a small pond and the edge of the glass. Looks pretty lifeless. Light citrus on the nose, caramel malt and a touch of herbs. Tastes of caramel malts, a little grass, touch of citrus. Medium bodied with light spritzy carbonation leading to a bitter finish. If all bars replaced crappy macro lagers with offerings like this then non beer centric bars would be a better place, however not a patch on the cask version!

50cl bottle, BB 02/2014.
