750ml bottle. Dark brown body below a lasting, big and frothy tan head. Inviting, complex aroma of fruit (plum, cherry, apple), fresh-cut wood from the whiskey-like alcohol, yeast (mustiness) and malts (rum-soaked cake and toffee). The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic and lightly bitter. The finish is lightly tart and lightly to moderately alcoholic. Flavors of overripe fruits and spice. Medium body, watery texture turning slightly sticky. Lively carbonation. An interesting, flavorful Belgian-style beer. The downside is that the strong alcohol presence is a little too much.

Big sweet, bitter and acidic taste with a huge alcohol warming feeling. Phenolic aftertaste. Smooth, though moussy, mouthfeel. Rather high bitterness.

Rated Aug. 2008. 0.750L bottle pours mildly hazy amber with big bubbles tan head. The aroma is complex with fruitiness like apricots, plums, apples, tart cherries and freshly unwrapped band-aid to go along with notes of assorted kitchen cabinet spices. Interesting. The taste begins with some mildly sweet apples, apricots and plums and then moving toward raisins and semi tart cherries. As the fruitiness transitions near midway a solid wheated malt note surfaces to break up the sweet and tart fruit. I seem to get both bandAid, a faint note of wood into the finish and a medicinal quality along the same lines as the band-aid note. Different than most of the Unibroue offerings I've enjoyed in the past.

Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle. Typical duck and cover uncorking. The beer is a ruby brown color with a medium thin light tan head that diminishes quickly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of spices and yeast as well as some woody and tobacco notes. Medium-bodied and moderately spicy, with clove dominating. Flavors of yeast, dark fruits and malt are present too. The finish is sweet and spiced with a lingering yeast aftertaste. Despite maybe needing some more time to settle via cellaring, this is pretty enjoyable.

Bottled. An unclear brown beer with a medium sized beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with ntoes of caramel, yeast, and fruit. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of spices and yeast, the spices include ginger and thyme added cardemomme coming late. Nice body.

RB#5800: 75 cL bottle. Pours dark brown and hazy with a huge yet slight creamy light tan head. Yeasty and slight roasted caramel malty aroma. Sweet and slight roasted with a mild yeasty and also spiced. Spice note initially show ginger, followed by cinamon and ends with cardemome. Ends mild sweet, yeasty and spiced. Nice.7-3-7-4-15=3.6

75 cL bottle as Grande reserve. Pours hazy orange with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity and light spiced phenolic. Sweet malty, cramelish and phenolic. Dry and toasted malty finish.7-3-7-3-14=3.4

Bouteille 750ml. De couleur brune foncée et voilée. Nez d’épices (anis, clou de girofle, léger de muscade, notes de cannelle, de poivre et de coriandre), de levures fruitées (prunes, notes de pommes rouges), malté caramel et de sucre brun, moyen de houblon herbeux (herbes fraîches) aux notes florales ainsi que léger d’alcool et avec des notes de tabac. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture moyennement crémeuse. Goût assez épicé (clou de girofle, moyen de muscade, léger d’anis et notes de cannelle et de gingembre) accompagné d’un goût de levures fruitées (prunes, notes de dates, traces de raisins vineux) ainsi que defaibles notes de tabac et de vanille lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût malté aux petites notes rôties (faibles notes brûlées), un goût de sucre brun ainsi qu’un léger goût de caramel toffee terreux et des notes de pain. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve un moyen goût d’alcool réchauffant (notes vineuses) jusqu’en finale, où l’on retrouve également un goût épicé asséchant (poivre doux) ainsi qu’une moyenne amertume de houblon herbeux et des traces de noix et boisées. Post-goût moyen-long et un peu sec, moyennement amer de houblon herbeux, d’alcool doux (notes de fût de chêne) et de levures fruitées (moût de prunes et de raisins, notes de dates).

Re-rate of the new version from bottle. Cedar wood and rumbarrel note aroma, same looks as before. I do not get the firework of flavor of last time. Sitll a bit of rum an dark sugar, but a lot more subtle. Medium to full body. Still lovely, but I am not as overawed as last time. Old rating: 8 4 9 4 17 Bottle. Dark light cloudy red brown with a golden brown cream and plentiful pearling carbonation. Light wooden vineous aroma with plenty of citric play. Plums in port carry from the aroma to the flavor - christmas cake set ablaze with rum, vanilla and pipe tobacco, wood and anis retronasal. Slightly overcarbonated in my oppinion, but nevertheless fuulbodied and with a creamy mouthfeel. Bloody great beer.
