Bourbon Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout

Pitch black in color with a faint tan head that immediately identifies this beer as BIG. Aromas of dark fruits, chocolate, caramel and roast also make it even bigger. Roasted coffee and fruity chocolate notes are just the beginning of this stout's complex flavor. If this is wrong we don't want to be right.

Bottle, many thanks to Adrian from BA. It pours opaque black with a small tan head. The nose is smooth roasted malt, sweet coffee, toffee, chocolate, fudge and vanilla. The taste is roasted malt, treacle, burnt sugar, cocoa, vanilla, oily, oreos, rocky road, earthy and bourbon with a dry, roasty finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Smooth, well-balanced and dangerously drinkable.....

bottle obtained in a trade ( 2 times, 2 dioffrent people. thnx guys ! ) 2011 vintage, at home, in my talisker bowl/glass . seriously. stouts in this, is the best ! pours black with a red glow, when you pour it in front of the light . small brown, fading foam. smell is oaty, not that intence , actualy. and i get no bourbon. so i think my fear of ’ another bourbon overkill stout’ was uncalled for ... taste rather low mouthfeel . AWSOME ! shit , why diod i trade my other bottle? bourbon is perfectly blended here. no overkill, but so there, in a good way ! buttery, oaty, robust feeling, perfect carbonation, vanilla ,... everything you could want from a bourbon BA impoerial stout, and than even better. im amazed !

Bottle shared at Doerak beer festival. Pours black with a ring beige head. Aroma of massive bourbon, vanilla, milk chocolate, light roast, coffee, molasses, fudge. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter, superbly balanced. Full bodied with very soft carbonation.

2012 bottle from Deyholla - thanks! Pours inky black with a medium dark brown head that dissipates slowly and laces nicely. Aroma is rich, woody, dark roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, tobacco, bourbon. Bourbon comes more to the forefront in the flavor, rich, roasty, chocolate, coffee grounds, boozy. Medium sweet, medium finishing bitterness. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Warming finish. Quite a nice beer.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of light dry roasted malt notes with some black chocolate notes with medium bourbon notes with some vanilla undertones. Taste is also dominated by creamy black chocolate notes with some light dry roasted malt. Body is full with creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Not as complex as I was expecting but very well balance overall with chocolate and bourbon creating an efficient mix.

Chilled brown bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with light brown head. Thick body and light espresso aroma. Taste is strong coffee. Compared with three other imperial stouts, third best.

Midnight black. Über oily Licorice and tobacco big dark chocolate and maple Incredibly complex. Decadent. Not as boozy as bcbs but everything else is so close. Not as boozy is actually nicer. It’s this excellent balance of charred oak, vanilla and bourbon with a chocolate espresso roasted almond stout incredible

2011 Bottle, thank youso much kappldav123. Black, no head. Dark chocolate, vanilla and cigar aroma. Sweet bourbon barrel star: Vanilla, milk and dark chocolate, fine tobacco notes. Finished off with aromatic and herbal hops which keep a bit in the background, but fend of the sweetness well. Fullbodied mellow mouthfeel. Sweet, wellrounded finish, well-balanced, sweet, but never gets cloying - a nice desert.

Opaque black beer, rich chocolate coloured head. Smooth palate, semi dry. Interesting beer! Strawberry and violets tang leading to rich dark malt. Trace of woody vanilla. Mild minerals. A little yeasty dark chocolate. Whsipers of Port and Brandy in the finish which is semi dry. Very nice!
