Butty Bach is a Welsh term meaning ‘little friend’ – and this charmingly smooth premium ale has certainly made more than a few friendships in its time. We brew it using Maris Otter and Crystal malts together with locally grown Fuggles, Goldings and Bramling Cross hops. With such fine ingredients, no wonder it remains a firm favourite.

Cask @ Admiral Rodney, Criggion. Pours clear gold, small white head. Sweet malt nose. Taste is sweeter than expected from Wye, actually liked this much more than I thought I would. Probably quite fresh I suppose. Decent full body to it. Decent bitter.

Head disappears almost immediately, so it doesn't look up to much. Light hop aroma. Taste is okay though incredibly generic. It's just A.N.Other English bitter that you'd find in pretty much any pub around the country. it's not unpleasant by any stretch, there's nothing nasty or sickly to it, it's just a bit dull.

Dark golden colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have biscuity malts and light floral hops. There's a slight dustiness in the finish.

Bottle at home. A golden bitter with perfectly balanced hops and malt and just so drinkable.

Nose is herbal, malt. Taste is malt, butter scotch, honey, caramel, herbal hop finish. It's a traditional golden ale.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Enjoying in my hotel room. Pale to medium golden, scant head. Aroma is light malt/grains. Taste is more of the malts, with a very gentle bitterness. 3.0 original rating.Pretty standard for the style. 11/9/19 updated for the cask version. Creamy smooth, malty, caramel. Full bodied and tasty AF
