The amber-coloured specialty beer Troubadour Magma has the aromatic and hoppy-bitter character of an American Indian Pale Ale, but is softened by the fruitiness of a Belgian Tripel. Enthusiasts appreciate the explosion of fruity scents from dry hopping.

Appearance is a hazy, orangey, light amber, a huge white head which settles down leaving loads of lacing. Aroma- tropical fruit, pine, hop resin, orange and lemon. Taste- fruity, malt undertones, pineapple juice, some bitterness but not as much as expected, a bit creamy, fruity lasting finish. Very nice.

Much appreciated IPA-style Belgian ale, the first new beer from this beer company after seven years, launched at a Zythos Bierfestival years ago and immediately attracting attention there. Nowadays I’d consider this a classic, with a thick and dense, creamy head and deep amber colour with slightly brownish hue, hazy. Powerful and very appealing aroma of peach, orange zest, fresh orange juice even, apple peel, thyme, honey, pink grapefruit, white pepper, aniseed, freshly grated ginger, pineapple, white bread, mango. Fresh fruity onset, rounded and full with medium carbo, very ’citrussy’ which is further enhanced by the gentle but powerful, assertive, elegant citrussy hops establishing a long, dry, very satisfying finish, a bit oily, on a bready and caramelly, solid malt base. Perfectly balanced and appetizing, this has become one of my favorites, as far as the commonly available Belgians are concerned. Is especially aromatic, citrussy and refreshing from tap, but ages well too, becoming more malty and less floral, but still elegant. If there is such a substyle as "Belgian IPA", this surely is one of its best representatives.

Hazy, orange amber. Frothy, sudsy offwhite head. Sweet, bready aroma, wet hay, caramel and hops. Flavour is bittersweet, light caramel, dark citrus and pronounced malt backbone. Heavy, bittersweet finish.

Small bottle. Shared by suurjuust, thanks! Pours golden with off-white head. The head stays. Aroma is fruits, berries, citrus, orange. Flavor is sweet, fruits, citrus, oranges, and some alcohol. Finish is grapefruit bitter with some sweetness and alcohol. Overall: ok brew.

Bottled 750ml. -thanks Ludo from Magic Beer Room Zagreb for acquiring this from Belgium. Clear orange coloured, medium sized off-white head, quite hoppy and light spicy nose. Sweet malty, citrusy fruity and pleasant hoppy with notes of caramel and spices in the finish. Expected better, I think it’s a bit too strong on a fruity side.

Nose: Yeast, orange, sugar, slight cream, toffee. Taste is some herbal hops leading to toffee and malt then a boozy peppery finish. Mouthfeel is slick. It’s surprisingly light on bitterness, and is actually more like a traditional English IPA made Imperial than a new world IPA. Once I grasped this, the beer made more sense and I was able to orientate myself with it.

Bottle 330 ml at Delirium Hoppy Loft, Bruxelles. Pours amber with white head. Malty, spicy and yeasty. Not sure if something was wrong with the bottle but it doesn’t really taste like IPA. Was disappointed.
