The beer was conceived in November 2010, when Matt Gorecki, the owner of North Bar in Leeds and five of his best friends made the trip to the BrewDog brewery in Fraserburgh in Aberdeen for his stag party.
The stag party made beer with BrewDog’s help and produced a 6.2% renaissance Baltic porter, that was named after Gorecki’s then fiancée (now wife) Alice Porter.
Originally no plans to brew the beer again once it was finished, the public response to the vanilla infused beer with hints of chocolate and cinnamon proved very persuasive and Alice Porter has now become an international phenomenon!
Malts: Marris Otter, Dark Crystal, Caramalt, Chocolate Malt, Roast Barley
Hops: Bramling Cross, Sorachi Ace
Twist: vanilla pods added during the boil

Can at home. I followed the Brewdog suggested method of preparing the can and for my efforts both I and the kitchen were spattered with beer. It did not put me in the best of humours! Lots of vanilla and coffee on the nose, but only the coffee remained in the taste. Odd. This was my first nitro beer and it resulted in an silky mouthfeel that I am not sure I enjoyed.

330ml nitro can from Fanzine issue 5. Poured as directed, very dark brown with a big tan head, great retention. Aroma of strong roast malts, dark fruits, vanilla. Taste is roasty, dark fruits, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, tangy fruity finish. Medium bodied, very smooth.

Creamy beige head stayed impeccably on a jet black still body. Big malty aroma with bitter coffee, bitter chocolate, & dark fruits. Initial roasted tastes of burnt cigarette, coal & ashes followed quickly by a mellow creamy taste of lactose, milk chocolate & then a tangy, bitter citrus finish.

Bottle 330ml. @ Craig’s House - Edinburgh. [ As BrewDog Alice Porter ].ABV: 4.6%. Clear dark brown color with a average, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, sweet malt, biscuit malt, roasted - frutiy coffee. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, roasted, dark malt, sweet malt - biscuit, roasted - fruity coffee. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20160320] 7-4-7-3-14

330ml bottle from K-Citymarket Ruoholahti. BBE 09/11/16. Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth head. Aroma of roasty malts, hints of ash, coffee and vanilla. Taste is smooth, slightly earthy and roasty with hints of berries, ash, coffee, licorice and vanilla. Finish is earthy, slightly roasty and ashy with some hints of coffee and licorice. Okay.

Aroma has licorice, ash and toffee. Flavour has slightly salty licorice, ash, toffee, cold coffee and mild herbal tones. Good.
