The beer was conceived in November 2010, when Matt Gorecki, the owner of North Bar in Leeds and five of his best friends made the trip to the BrewDog brewery in Fraserburgh in Aberdeen for his stag party.

The stag party made beer with BrewDog’s help and produced a 6.2% renaissance Baltic porter, that was named after Gorecki’s then fiancée (now wife) Alice Porter.

Originally no plans to brew the beer again once it was finished, the public response to the vanilla infused beer with hints of chocolate and cinnamon proved very persuasive and Alice Porter has now become an international phenomenon!

Malts: Marris Otter, Dark Crystal, Caramalt, Chocolate Malt, Roast Barley
Hops: Bramling Cross, Sorachi Ace
Twist: vanilla pods added during the boil

Bottle(4.6%): Almost black, medium-sized loose off-white head that slowly collapses; complex bitter-sweet nose of roasted malt, caramel and berries with nutty traces and a certain, as expected, delicate acidity in the background; moderate bitter-sweet flavour with - again - a certain acidity, light to medium bodied, pretty soft; lingerin bitter-sweet finish, presenting the same flavours plus a tinge of bitter-chocolate and almost a feeling of warming alcohol in the aftertaste. A perfect beer for breakfast...

Kolanvärinen, kohtalaisesti beigesti vaahtoava olut. Tuoksu maltainen, kevyen suklainen ja sokerisen paahteinen. Maku paahteinen, maltainen ja hyvin kevyesti suklainen. Keskitäyteläinen suutuntuma, mutta runko turhan ohut.

Bottled (from Prisma, Vaasa). I’ve looked at this many times in the shop, but didn’t realize before this week that actually I haven’t tasted the 4.6 % version. More or less black colour with a mediumsized brown creamy head. Aroma is nice coffee with some roasted malts, ashes and nice ripe fruity sweetness. Flavour is quite similar, but leaves a bit watery as for the palate.

3/IV/16 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: 19/II/16 (2016-304) Thanks to ElManana+1 for sharing the bottle!

Clear purple brown beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of forest fruits, milk chocolate, hint of coffee, vanilla, caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: malty start, bit sourish, very fruity, raspberries, blackberries, mocha, dark chocolate, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: bitter hops, vanilla, mocha, dark chocolate. What a pleasant beer with such a low abv!

Bottled 330ml (S-Market, Pori)
Opaque black-brown color, good beige head. Aroma has coffee, toasted maltyness and some lactic/milky notes. Light-bodied. Toasted and milky flavcor. Chocolate lurking. Low bitterness. Nice flavors but hopelessy watery finish. Stronger versions are much better.
