Hoppy Belgian-Style Ale

Mischief is a hoppy Belgian-style golden strong ale. This wickedly good golden ale is fiendishly dry-hopped with American hops to add a layer of complexity and mystery to its fruity, dry Belgian-style character. Citrus and resin diabolically combine with ripe melon, pear and slight peppery spice in a precariously effervescent mixture. Enjoy it, but you’ll want to keep an eye out.

Big offwhite head. Clear yellow body with light carbonation. Earthy musty herbal aroma with spicy floral perfumy notes. Dry-sweet earthy floral musty taste with papery barnyard and spice notes. Light-to-mid body. Fizzy mouthfeel. Dry spicy pine needles and earth aftertaste with perfumy floral barnyard notes. It’s nice, but also feels a bit unclean, which makes me uneasy about the flavour. (0.75l bottle, Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)

750 ml bottle from Imbibe Wine. Nose is lightly sweet honey, light cloves, floral hoppiness, with hints of bubblegum and pine. Clear yellow with a big pale yellow, heavily lacing head. Flavor is lightly bitter, lightly sweet, with bits of pine, yeast, and light caramel. Finishes with light piney bitterness.

The Big Hunt, DC sample glass: Pours a hazy golden colour with a white head. Aroma and taste are kind of strange (although, I know I had a beer that tasted like this before): kind of earthy, weird yeast flavor, lemon, but more like the cleaning fluid than the fruit... I won’t say soapy, but almost. Somebody else said plastic, maybe that is the metaphor that I am looking for. In any case, I was ready to buy a glass of this, but the sample convinced me otherwise. Not my thing man.

Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a yellow-golden color with a large foamy white head that lingered and left minimal lacing. The aroma was dry with crisp floral hops and light notes of must and perfume. The flavor was dry, tart, sour, lemony and peppery with a light musty undertone. The finish was medium length and dry with a bit of fruity hops. Medium body. Decent.
