The Lupulus Hibernatus is a dark strong beer. At the end of the boiling, the brewers add a pinch of cinnamon. The mix with torrefied barley brings this beer a powerful character. The After-taste is at the same time bitter-sweet, and finish on coffee aromas.

Very thick-set cream-coloured head over dark & opaque red-brown beer. Very discreet nose, some dry hops. Dark-roasted malts, burnt, dry impression but contradicted by a lot of restsugars in the background. Dark green leaves. Warming up, gets hoppy threats, but the roasted notes remain dominant. Medium to well-bodied, gristslickness. Lightly sticky. Well-integrated flavours, but unfortunately the overall result isn’t really exciting.

On tap @ Setka Pub Poznan, Poland. Pours slightly hazy dark copper brown with small light tan head. Clear aroma of malt with a touch of cinnamon. Intense, malty and fruity taste with soubtle touches of cinnamon. Warming presence of alcohol. Sweetish aftertaste. Nice.

Draft sample @ 18th Christmasbeer festival in Essen. Dark brownish with a small tanned head. Smell is smoky meaty malts in a burst yeast & not good kind of way, lactic & vinous. Taste is same meatiness, dark malts, bitter herbs, vinous, metallic, earth, leaves. Medium to light body, lower carb. Granted going by the ingredients this doesn’t really seem like my thing but this is definitely not how it was meant to be. Things went wrong & this sort of sucks. I can drink but I am not particularly digging this.

Bottle sample @ 18de Kerstbierfestival, Essen 2012.

Sampled at OBER Kerstbierfestival 2012. Dark brown color with a slight red glare coming through when held into the light, small beige to light brown head on top. Smell and taste malts, smoke and weirdness. Can’t describe it but I sure know I don’t like it at all.
