A dark black beer with a creamy head. Dry touches of coffee (roasted malt) that explain the bitter sip at the end.
The beer was born from a taste memory. A memory of a tour of Yorkshire in the 1970s, and of beers like Theakston’s Old Peculier. Black was developed with British brewmaster Ian Ward from the inspirational experiences of 30 years ago. With Ardennes spring water, Belgian malts, English hops, a slightly higher alcohol content, lightly carbonated and brewed the English way: the perfect example of a mixed marriage.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2013 as “Bellevaux Black Cuvée Spéciale”. Apparently this beer is an attempt of recreating a beer called “Old Peculiar” that the brewers tried in 1978 in Yorkshire. Interesting. Blackish dark brown with a tanned head. Nose is full of sweet liquorish, touch iron, toffee, roasted malts. Taste carries touch iron upfront, pretty sweet with lots of liquorish, bitter herbs, caramel, touch herbal in the back, roasted chocolate. Thicker body, not bad, pretty interesting stuff here.

Malzig-dunkler Antrunk, leicht säuerlich. Der Hauptteil ist angenehm dunkel-malzig, angenehm trocken-herb. Der Nachgeschmack hält sich lange auf der Zunge, dunkle Röstmalztone, sehr angenehm trocken-herb abgestimmt.

330 ml bottle. Pours black with light head. Aromas of dark malts and watery ash. Flat. Flavors are similar. Not very impressive. More similar to a lighter black IPA.

Bottle at the Essen Christmas Beer Festival. Poured a dark brown colour with a thick tan head. The aroma is weak malty. The flavour is bitter with liqourice and slightly watery. Other people liked this beer but I thought it rather bland.

Hazy and very dark brown beer. Big frothy biscuit coloured head. Light spice on the nose. Light dry palate, a little soft. Dark malt is light and dry and just slightly roasted. A trace of lactose sweetness. Finishes dry. A light porter I would say!

Bottle @ home thx to benzai. Pitch black colour with a firm, creamy, tanned head. Smells some roastyness, some chocolate but there?s little to no smell. Tastes slightly roasty, mostly water and boring. Thin body, okay carbo.
