Belgian Saison brewed with local barley, wheat and rye from Riverbend Malt House of Asheville, North Carolina and aged on local bull’s blood beets from Bluebird Farm of Morganton, North Carolina. Dry hopped with a blend of Cascade and Mt. Hood hops. Expect notes of dirt/earth/soil, citrus hops and fragrant Belgian yeast.

Tall boy from Appalachian Vinter. Canned 10/26/22. Pint glass @home. Hazy watermelon pour. Soft off-white & faintly blushy head. Spiced, earthy scent, reminds me of dried tomato & faded rosemary. Earth, spice, mineral water, mellow watermelon rind bitterness, tomato juice, obvious beets middle to end. Frothy, starchy, good subtle acid, low perceived abv. Interesting enough to keep drinking. Good enough to buy again though?

Can from Corti Bros. Pours clear, bright cherry red with a pinkish foamy head. Main aroma is earth/yeast, but there is a beet note. Med body or so. Flavor is earthy and yeasty, but there is definitely beet flavor. Pretty dry. Decently bitter. Interesting take on a Saison. I think it would go well with beef. Rare beef.

Big thanks to DrFabolous for this one he didn’t know but this is brewery I wanted to try for years. Pours like a normal Saison expected a purple monstrosity. But the nose is full on beet, earth, some musk. Tastes of lovely beets super earthy and funky, some white wine grapes, musk, hay and vegetal. Bitter and funky. Behind the beet is a lovely traditional Saison. Dig it.

The Aromas are mild beets, wet grain, pale malt and a hint tart. Flavors are like Nose, tart comes forward and beets recede Plus a little Wintergreen. Okay body with some medicinal in the Finish. 1 is enough.

(On tap @ CBC 2016 Yellow Session, Copenhagen) Pours orange to salmon coloured with a head of loose white bubbles. Nose is semi-sweet with light acidic notes, lots of beets, quite leafy as well, feels like beet salad with vinagrette. Flavour is again lots of beets, light tart acidity, really leafy and herbal, leading to quite a dry crisp finish with leafy green bittering hops. Low malt core, pretty much all beet. Very crisp and dry aftertaste, short and sharp. Light bodied. I wasn’t so into how the beets fit in, but it was decently drinkable.
