750 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but I believe this was from Winter 2011. Pours fairly crystal clear reddish copper color with a nice 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings to the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big apple skin, clove, pear, caramel, cinnamon, allspice, toast, gingerbread, nutmeg, and light earth. Pretty nice aromas with decent balance; the apple skins overpower most of the aromas. Taste of caramel, apple, toast, gingerbread, pear, cinnamon, clove, allspice, toast, nutmeg, brown sugar, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruit, toast, caramel, gingerbread, cinnamon, clove, allspice, nutmeg, brown sugar, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Great flavor balance with good complexity; nice malt/spice balance; zero cloying flavors on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a fairly slick, creamy, and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice seasonal Belgian ale! Nice flavor balance and complexity; very smooth and crisp to sip on. Really enjoyed this one.

3/V/2012 - 75cl bottle @ Klaas' place - BB: n/a (2012-466) Thanks to John for sharing the bottle!

Clear ruby red beer, small off-white head, unstable. Aroma: sweet start, overripe fruits, cherries, lots of spices, cinnamon, star anise, cookie dough. Reminds me a lot of the smell of Southern Tier Pumking. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very spicy, cinnamon, cloves, liquorish, bit of mocha, little sweet, fruity touch, candied fruit, overripe fruits, bit of cough syrup (elderberry syrup). Aftertaste: bitter touch, some mocha, little fruity, overripe fruits and banana. Very complex, but not amazing.

Cloudy brown colour. Aroma is sour. Flavour is weak with just a hint of red fruits coming through against the overpowering sourness.

Whole Foods, P st, DC 750ml ($10): Pours a transparent brownish amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is fruity with nice Belgian yeast elements. Taste is somewhat sweet. There is a hint of licorice. I was expecting something much thicker, but this is a pretty light bodied beer. There is a bit of chocolate in the aftertaste, but less so in the initial taste. Dark fruit. Plenty complexity. A good Belgian Ale.
