The chance to brew with long time idol Alan Sprints of Hair of The Dog is something we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Maja is a bourbon barrel aged barleywine brewed with maple syrup, lactose sugar and vanilla beans. Conceptually you could call it a “maple muffin barley wine”.

12oz bottle pours out amber topped with a white head and a piece of chard bourbon barrel ash on top. Nose is nice rich barley wine house hotd for sure some vanilla on that bourbon barrel with a pine hops hit. Taste is more of the nice bourbon barrel vanilla some odd hop bitterness bit work past that and it is a sweet caramel candy end.

Taste is slightly sweet mineraly, caramel, toast, minerals, grass, hay, roasted nuts, almonds, toffee, bourbon. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mineraly mouthfeel. Fair enough.

330ml @ Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend 2017. Pours yellowish with a smooth. Aroma of maple syrup, vanilla, malts, toffee and caramel. Taste is sweet, boozy and stingy with some vanilla, maple syrup and toffee. Finish is sweet, boozy and stingy vinous with some wood and vanilla. Heavy and stingy.

On tap at Omnipollos Hatt, Stockholm. Hazy amber with a minimal head. Sweet with malt, caramel, oak, vanilla, some fruit and bourbon. The body was full and the finish with warming alcohol. Not a bad one but maybe a bit young?
