Two-tone, toe-tapping, ten-malt-porter. Monstrous amounts of fresh malts create a beer as black as the earl of hell to which some big piney hops are added to give a robust bitter finish. Quite often this beer can be aged in a barrel with some varying special ingredient.

(Cask at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico, London, 25 Nov 2018) Dark brown colour, almost black, with foamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dark chocolate, black rye bread and coffee. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, caramel and a balanced cacao bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well made porter. Nice one.

Black with thin creamy head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of dark malts. There's also a little red fruit sweetness in the background too. Very flavoursome but a bit too gassy.

Light brown rocky head stayed on a near black still body - Looks great! Dry malty aroma - roasted. Medium bodied, airy, smooth - feels fluffy on the palate. Milky sweet & malty to the fore followed by bitter back of coffee, bitter fruit & long tangy finish. Excellent Porter

From 33cl bottle. Pours dark brown with limited foam. Aroma is coffee, and roasted malt. Body is light enough, and flat. Taste is surprisingly bitter, especially in the finish.

330ml bottle. Almost black pour with a good tan brown head, great lacing and retention. Aroma: roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, liquorice. Taste: roasted malts, chocolate, liquorice. Slightly sweet with a bitter finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, slick slightly sticky texture. Decent.

1/3 pint at Duke’s Corner pours a muddy black with some cloudy tan head. Nose has chocolate, molasses, mild toast, some charcoal, licorice. Flavor flows, malty, toasted grain and bread, chocolate, licorice, some burnt brown sugar. Finishes malty and dry. Good example of the style.

Bottle from Oddbins Beer Shop, Blackheath. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of burnt toast, licorice, chocolate some dark fruit. Flavours of coffee, chocolate, raisin and a little smoke. Robust, malty finish. Tasty stuff.

On tap at the Bath Brew House, Bath. deep ruby brown colour with a tan head. Aroma is dark caramel, taste has a touch of sweet malts, thick body.
