Two-tone, toe-tapping, ten-malt-porter. Monstrous amounts of fresh malts create a beer as black as the earl of hell to which some big piney hops are added to give a robust bitter finish. Quite often this beer can be aged in a barrel with some varying special ingredient.
Malts: Maris Otter, Munich, Crystal, Wheat, Oats, Flaked Barley, Melanoiden, Roast Barley, Chocolate, Carafa III
Hops: Simcoe, Chinook, Columbus

Tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Paul. Semi opaque dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is smooth and airy. Light fine carbonation. Smooth malt with a mild dark character. Light touch of dark chocolate and tangy dark fruits. Smooth finish. Not bad at all, well joined up.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Paul. Pours brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose holds dark bread, subtle cocoa and burnt wood. Light sweet flavor with charred meat, burnt wood, bittersweet baking cocoa. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. More burnt wood and meat to finish, bitter dark chocolate, faint earth. Nice stuff. Good balance and depth.

Bottle courtesy of Craig at Craigs doing a Chris O tasting, Edingburgh (ta for the beer Craig) Friday 14th March Clean nose bit spritzy, light watery coffee cones through also. However this is really quite full in mouth, there is a lasting roasty bitter bite, a streaky citrus juiciness also working well. Its great. A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.8

Cask at The Bow Bar. Pours opaque black, thick dark brown head that hands around. Looks luscious. Lots of roasted notes on the aroma, charcoal, chocolate bourbons, coffee. Fruity, tangy bitter taste, almost took it for a black IPA at first, then the roast hits, and the sweet chocolate edge. Really nice.

Cask at Pelt Trader. It pours near black with a thick light tan head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, wood, toasted sugar and some fruitiness. The taste is smooth, roasty, toast, coffee, earth, plum, dates, chocolate, nice bitterness and mild acidity with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Smooth, flavoursome and well-balanced. Expertly crafted. A joy to drink.
