Urthel Samaranth is a real authentic tasting beer according to the old Flemish brewing tradition. A dark specialty beer of 11.5% with a subtle soft-sweet taste, rich scents of dried fruit and a refined bitterness with a hint of chocolate in the after-taste. EBC 55.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Bruges. Rated on 15.07.2010
Aroma has dark fruits, some spices and alcohol. Flavour has ripe fruits, some raisins, plums and hints of spices. Stinging alcohol in the finish. Quite boozy, feels a bit raw and messy. Aging might do the trick.
7+4+7+4+15 = 3.7
33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 03/2013
Aroma is rather typical to and aged Belgian ale: plums, some raisins, dark fruits, toffee and hints of spices. Also some brown sugar and fruity notes. Flavour has ripe fruits, some sugary notes, plums and hints of raisins. Alcohol is clearly present and on some sips it is even disturbing, but I wouldn’t call this ’quite boozy’ anymore. After the sip alcohol warms nicely though. No off‐flavours even though BBE is gone. Palate is a bit too high on CO2.
7+4+7+4+15 is an appropriate scoring for this aged one too.

33cl bottle - Clear bronze with a moderate head and lacing and real nice lacing. Rum alcohol and dark fruit aromas with a touch of sugar also evident. Flavour is dominated by very pleasant dark fruits - raisins and dark cherries. Alcohol is warming, and there is a touch of bitterness toward the end. Silky smooth mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, and a warm finish. A very nice beer.

Subtiele zacht zoete smaak zonder de chocolade/koffie smaak als in de gulden draak, maar toch een fijne lichtzoete bitterheid in de afdronk die lekker blijft hangen. --- Beer merged from original tick of Urthel Samaranth on 25 May 2018 at 14:51 - Score: 9

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks Hansen & Zita for this bottle! Clear shiny amber with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, alcohol and some dark fruits. Sweet flavor with lots of dark fruits and malt. Medium to full-bodied, lively carbonation. Decent.
