Trappist ale brewed with spices. We brewed a beer that we describe as 'slightly unruly'--our Trappist 8 is a beer you must take time to understand. Chestnut-colored and bottle-conditioned, with aroma of herbs and spices; initially floral and slightly sweet; character develops from light caramel to a lovely, dry, hoppy bitterness as the flavor opens. Brewed within the walls of Zundert Trappist Monastery by monks.

Pours copper with a large lasting head.Nose shows sultanas, bready and toasty malt, light spicy phenols, soft booze and caramel.Flavours include golden syrup, brown sugar, sultanas, bready malt and booze. Unfortunately the finish includes a harsh, abrasive chalky and metallic note.

Buddel: Almost clear, copper coloured, smaller loose off-white head; moderate to solid sweet caramelly and fruity (dried fruits) nose with a shy, but distinctive herbal-hoppy background; solid sweet flavour, soft and almost full bodied; warming alcohol in the otherwise robust sweet and also pleasantly bitter finish. Likeable Bier...

Shared 33cl bottle. Pours a pale amber color with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, alcohol, fruit, spice and yeast. Taste follows nose. More emphasis on malt and less emphasis on fruitiness and spices than traditional tripels. Okay.

Keskiruskea, täysin kirkas olut runsaalla valkoisella vaahdolla.

Bottle at a tasting. A good balance of noble hops, dried fruits, spicy yeastiness. High carbonation, relatively easy drinking, alcohol hidden well. Good trappist.

Pours amber, bit of foam. Sweet candy caramel aroma, dried fruits. Fruity, sweet and caramelly. Nice trappist, alcohol coming out also. I guess that triples are not just my favourite style...

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, reddish amber with some floating impurities and an off-white head. Nose has some nuts and caramel with a slight yeastiness. Rich body, brown sugars, nuts, toffee and molasses and some discreet phenols. Enough bittering to prevent this from ever getting cloying. Some late warming booze. Far from the world’s most complex Trappist, but decent enough. 070716
