Trappist ale brewed with spices. We brewed a beer that we describe as 'slightly unruly'--our Trappist 8 is a beer you must take time to understand. Chestnut-colored and bottle-conditioned, with aroma of herbs and spices; initially floral and slightly sweet; character develops from light caramel to a lovely, dry, hoppy bitterness as the flavor opens. Brewed within the walls of Zundert Trappist Monastery by monks.

Bottle @ Home. Slight gusher that pours a little hazy goldenorange with a huge offwhite head. Aroma of malt, yeast, sweet fruit, come citrus, orangepeel, light spice, alcohol. Flavor is light sweet, matly, belgian yeast, candy sugar, weak honey notes, spice, light citrus. Medium body, highly carbonated, some alcohol. 060515

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BB 18/09/16, at Stadin Panimobaari, 20150502) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, Belgian style yeast, earth and tangerine. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, sweetness, Belgian style yeast, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was very sweet, somewhat malty and mildly bitter. A way too sweet Belgian style brew.

Foam: with very creamy medium head Colour: slightly hazy amber colour, a bit dark orange golden Aroma: caramel, sweet, but malty and fruity orange, apricot, honey and biscuit Taste: sweet, again very floral with honey, great creamy texture, and soft carbonation, ginger, biscuit, cardamom, black treacle, smooth, sweet taste with a touch of lemon and coriander amongst a much lighter raisin note, some hop too. Sweetness before a drier taste on the way to the back of the palate. Pretty exceptional for a Trappist beer.

Deep and a bit dark orange golden color with a fine of white head. Looks nice. A quite inviting aroma ( but nor very typical tripel) with dried fruits plum an toffee. Fine medium + body. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. A bit to high carbonation. Dried fruit, toffee, some yeast and plum in the flavor. This one was actually better when it got a bit warmer. The high carbonation died also a bit after a while. Nice evening sipper. Not very tripel-ish. But who cares.

Bottle. Reddish bronze beer with a strong head. The aroma is deeply spiced with bitterness, and the flavour is very bitter, roasted and malty with bags of mulled spice. Overall a nice deeply roasted and spiced bitter Belgian style beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl bottle. Caramel-sweetish but malty-fruity nose. The beer starts fresh malty, not too sweetish. Nice full body with woody hints of dark fruit. Dry cherries, hints of plums. Gingerbread, christmas spices. Nice fresh-fruity but a bit dusty spicy aftertaste, round and smooth with a bitter-sharp and quite dry ending. Nice.

Red amber, with an abundant and well developed tan head: looks like a dubbel rather than a tripel. Very complex and intense aromas: fresh lawn, ginger, biscuit, cardamom, black treacle, Seville orange... Fizzy, fresh, without the staple sweetness of many trappist beers. Medium-lasting finish, lightly bitter.

Bottle at Lemmyβs. Deep orange-brown, cloudy with a low, fine head. Jammy orange, apricot, honey and biscuit nose. Spicy marmalade, yeast, sweet malts. Ok but nothing exciting happening.
