Trappist ale brewed with spices. We brewed a beer that we describe as 'slightly unruly'--our Trappist 8 is a beer you must take time to understand. Chestnut-colored and bottle-conditioned, with aroma of herbs and spices; initially floral and slightly sweet; character develops from light caramel to a lovely, dry, hoppy bitterness as the flavor opens. Brewed within the walls of Zundert Trappist Monastery by monks.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Cloudy amber, rich creamy head. Caramelly nose. Fairly sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Sugary caramel, some resin and saccharine. Long bitter finish. Somewhat unrefined.

Pours slightly hazy amber with beige head. Aroma is yeast, wheat and dough. Flavor is sweet and bitter, with yeasty dough and some faint cardboard. Finish is fruity dry bitter. No complexity whatsoever and absolutely nothing that stands out.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with huge white head. Aroma is malt, barley, yeast, sweet red apples, prunes and hints of red wine. Taste is medium acidic, medium sweet, light bitter and very faint salty. Body is oily with sparkling, fizzy carbonation. Finish is long and balanced bitter and sweet with notes of malt, wine, fruit, yeast, cinnamon, gardamom, anise and turmeric. Rich and complex but perhaps a bit too lively carbonated.

Flaska från SB. Mörkt bärnstenfärgad vätska med tjockt och luftigt skum. Lätta dofter av dadlar, russin, kola och frukt. Fruktig smak, inga kryddor. Inte mycket trippel, för ljus för dubbel och alldeles för smaklös för en quad. Sammanvägt ett första tappert försök som lovar gott för framtiden.

Amber color with white head. Aroma is fresh, a bit phenolic. Taste is spicy, but fresh. A bit bready, a bit caramel. All perfectly balanced. Slightly bitter finish. Nice mouthfeel. Very easy to drink. This is actually very good.

33 cl. bottle from a Fakta discounter poured in to a Tulip. Slightly hazy, amber colour with a golden tint. Big, frothy off-white head. Good looking. Sweet aroma with rich caramel malts, yeasts, resins and spicy notes. Taste is light sweet. Medium body with a creamy texture and a lively carbonation. Finishes slightly dry with toasted malts, yeasts and fruity notes. Lovely Tripel.

Sample at Systembolaget. Dark amber with a white head. On the sweet side with dried fruit, caramel and light bread. The carbonation was on the high side and I could feel some warming alcohol in the finish.

Bottle 330ml. @ home. [ As Zundert Trappist ].Clear medium orange color with a large, open and frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, pale malt, moderate yeasty, belgium yeast, fruity. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a long duration, flowers, caramel, pale malt, yeasty. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft - lively. [20150414]
