Aroma of dark malt, sweet chocolate, some roast, liquorice, hint of dark fruits, herbs, touch of Brett. Flavour is medium sweet with a moderate roasty bitter finish. Not your typical Imperial Stout, a bit less intense but it has an interesting mix of flavours. I especially liked the subtle Brett touch.

Tap at Noord-Hollandse Bierfestival, Alkmaar: Very black colored brew with dry bitter taste, hints of chocolate, coffee and liquorice.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Roast and licorice in the aroma. Malty sweet, roasty, alcoholic flavor with hints of ash and pear. Solid IRS.

Fles gedeelt door Roelzie1986. Het is een donkerbruin bier met een volle beige schuim. Het heeft een gebrande drop achtige geur. De smaak is moutig, gebrand en drop achtig.

Creamy tan head left a blotchy cover on a black still body. Rich aroma of dark chocolate, caramel & dark spirits. Medium to full bodied, oily, smooth, silky & clean on the back. Roasted, nutty, liquorice, bitter berry, chocolate, raisin & boozy dark spirit tastes.

Bottled 330ml (Der Bierkoning, BB unclear 18-12-202???) Opaque colour, small beige head. Rye bready, almost kvass-like roasted aroma. Full-bodied. Licorice, burned malts, dark bread and roasted malts in the flavour. Some bitterness but not really alcoholic. Quite dry - this might be 1+ yo bottle. Just a bit rough and simple although no big problems in this one.

SI cet imperial stout a comme point fort des arômes francs et intéressants de café agrémentés de fruits rouges mûrs et d'épices, elle n'en reste cependant perfectible sur le plan de l'équilibre avec un alcool mal intégré et trop violent, un manque d'ampleur en bouche pour le genre et un niveau de complexité décevant, mis à part l'attaque. Elle en reste néanmoins plaisante. Belle présentation en plus en verre avec une jolie robe noire (EBC de 100) surmontée d'une mousse brune de 5 mm. Le nez est simple mais efficace : café, chocolat, caramel et alcool! L'attaque est sur une belle amertume fraîche, et présente la palette aromatique la plus intéressante : chocolat, fruits, épices, vanille. Alliance intéressante, tout en subtilité avant que les arômes de café et l'alcool ne prennent trop l'ascendant pour cannibaliser tous les autres, et ce dès la deuxième bouche qui présente encore cependant des arômes de fruits rouges mûrs (prune notamment). L'amertume à 70 d'IBU est quant à elle bien dosée et j'ai beaucoup apprécié un sucre dosé juste comme il le faut. L'arrière, se porte essentiellement sur le café et les épices, appréciable, mais manquant tout de même d'ampleur. Le final, d'une bonne longueur est dominé par l'alcool qui est à mon sens trop agressif avec par contre des arômes de beaux arômes de café et une bonne amertume. Je reste donc mitigé par cet Imperial Stout.
