Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground), malted barley, roasted malt, yeast and hops. Fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’.

550ml bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with red hue and a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, licorice and coffee. Sweet flavour of chocolate malt, light roast, toffee, caramel, licorice, light lactic sourness, ash and coffee with an earthy, slightly dry finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Nice.

Bottle at the Rising Sun in Smithfield. This was a top porter with loads of burnt and toasted malt and more than a hint of sweetness to the profile. It was also quite rich and I was glad I was only having the one

Taste- smooth chocolate, dark malt, hint of burnt toast and smoke, caramel, biscuity malt, coffee, a bit of treacle toffee in the finish. Smooth and satisfying mouthfeel. Very nice.

Very dark brown pour with a tall tan head. Notes of chocolate, roast, molasses, brown sugar, light pine and bittering hops. A bit watery, but otherwise decent porter.
