Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, launched in 2010, is an intense beer, dark in colour and full in taste.
The aroma is elegant, spicy and slightly roasted.
The sophisticated blend of special kinds of malt give the beer a complex character, combining a delicate dryness with hints of cariander, dark fruits, anise and roasted chestnuts. The palate finishes in a syrupy taste. The refermentation in the bottle creates a living beer that will evolve over the years.
EBC 100, 22° plato.

A well aged (2011) bottle thanks to MrH! pours clear reddish chestnut, medium fizzy beige head that mostly dissipates but leaves nice residual and lacing. Aroma is sherry, dried fruits, toffee, grape. Flavor is vinous, grapes, sherry, figs, dates, some spice. Light plus sweet, light bitter. Medium body, fairly high carbonation. Interesting how this has developed.

Bottle. Nose is barley, yeast, dough, dark cherry slight cola, sugar, plum, figs. Taste is cream, plums, cherry, a little chocolate, brown sugar, dough, then moving to a soft fruitier finish with a little strawberry and burnt brown sugar. There a some vanilla elements around the cream, and a little sherry and oak character in the burnt finish. An excellent complex beer, which covers a lot of ground. Edit 2021: As above but with a noticeable licorice, treacle, and toffee in the middle. I couldn't get the vanilla.

330ml bottle from Bochka in Moscow. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is fruit, Turkish delight, and a sort of floweriness (perhaps rose). Taste is similar. Alcohol is extremely well masked.

330ml bottle [kindly donated by bartlebier, thank you very much!]. Coffee brown colour with average, frothy, rock solid, fully lasting, off-white head. Dark fruity aroma, notes of dried dark fruit and their parings as well, minimally spicy, yeasty overtones. Taste belongs to the same genre, more intense, multifaceted and complex, with additional moderately sweet chocolate notes, oscillating between raisin, plum, blue grapes etc. Oily texture, slightly sticky palate. Pure pleasure.

Bottle from Supervalu, Longford [161014]
Black with dark brown edges, big frothy tan head, good lacing
Aroma of dark fruits, touch of rum, soft sherry, interesting floral note, slight alcohol, complex
Taste of dark malts, some dark fruits, bit spicy, unusual perfume ester notes, getting some dark chocolate, dab of treacle, complex
Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, smooth. Sweet palate. Finish as main flavour, soft sweet smooth dark malt finish
Overall - Alcohol really well hidden. Complex. Some interesting notes in this quad - different to others I’ve tried. Very good. Great to see this in the local supermarket.

Strong dark ale since 2010, also bottled in 75 cl bottles. Thick yellowish head, warm dark brown red colour. Complex aroma of bitter chocolate, gin, cream, blackcurrant, coffee, honey, liquorice. Soft, mellow, thick palate with soft fruitiness and pleasant yeasty spiciness on a full, creamy caramelly and chocolatey background, finishing in a roasted bitterness, herbal hops and warming, but not disturbing alcohol. Not sure if this is a quadrupel: to me, the roasted bitterness is just a bit too present not to be called a Scotch. But regardless of that, this is a very enjoyable winter warmer.
