Smokehouses have been used on the coast for hundreds of years. Originally used to preserve fish caught in the summer and fall, somehouses of today are used to give a wonderful taste to wild caught fish. Our smokehouse porter uses grains smoked in local smokehouses to contribute to a robust, well rounded porter that goes well with hearty foods, or a roaring fire and a good book during a winter storm.

On tap at Dageraad, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, a touch of black pepper, and light smoke. Flavour is quite smoky, with lots of toasted malt, a bit of cracked black pepper, and light smoke. Dry and smoky finish. Solid.

Draught at Dageraad, Burnaby
Black colour. Aroma of roasted malts. Smooth mouthfeel, roasted malt flavour, some ashes, but nothing too aggressive; quite dry, maybe thin, without smoke.
They suggest that you will be getting a smoked Porter, but I have a different opinion and this is a Stout.
Very good Stout.

What could go better with a porter than corn dogs and Hercules In New York on the telee? Well, idunno. Poured chilled this has minimal head and a dark brown-black body with vague carbonation. Heavy smoked grains aroma on the nose, shoe leather, beef jerky, braised steak. Flavour is lots of smoked barley with leather hints, right inside that smelly old smokehouse I tells ya, with a dry finish. Great oily texture, lots of local porters are too watery for my tastes but this one gets it right. A good beer, good on Prince Rupert for their excellent brewery efforts.
