There are two schools of thought when it comes to oyster stouts - some believe that they should be served cold and go well with a plate of oysters. We believe that a proper oyster stout should be made with oysters. We’ve used six different grains, including oats, wheat and roasted barley, and Fuggles hops for that traditional stout character. We’ve then added whole oysters, shells and all, during the last fifteen minutes of the boil. The result is a smooth chocolatey stout that leaves you wanting more.

Pours pitch black with a tiny head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, hints of coffee and licorice. Taste is slightly watery with notes of roastiness, dark chocolate and licorice. Finish is roasty with some hints of ash and coffee. Okay, quite roasty stout.

bottle from Darts Farm Topsham. Deep black, creamy beige head. Malty, slightly sweet start with lots of chocolate and a touch of (slightly salty?) yeast/sediment. Very nice.

Black with a nice dark, cream head. Nice thick, oily texture. There’s a fresh bite of hop present amongst the burnt malts.

500ml Bottle - Black with a tan head. Coffee, roasted malt and chocolate in the aroma. Chocolate and very roasted taste with notes of liquorice, coffee and plain chocolate. The finish is slightly smoky.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits, Birmingham. Dark mahogany pour with a thin tan head. Huge burnt malt aroma with some liqourice notes. Big malty, smokey, spicy flavour. A truly excellent stout which I wish was more widely available.

Bottle shared from John. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of burnt malts, chocolate and a little stale coffee. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

GBBF. Opaque black - brown beer. Good tan head. Palate is fresh and a little dry. Mild fine carbonation. Fresh tangy dark malts with some lactose. Trace of smoke and fruits and a pinch of spice. Mild roast malt aftertaste. Decent.

Cask, handpump at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell, London 6th Jan 2012 Dark brown in colour with very little head. This is a touch thin with a bit of roastiness, nice light chocolatey flavour with a slight tang, but I’m not sure that I’m getting too much salinity or oyster flavour however that is probably good and would suggest that the balance is good. A very likeable stout but coming on the back of a Buxton Wild Boar it was always going to be up against it, nice though. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3
