Ezelenbok is a sturdy and emphatically hopped Doppelbock. Einbecker Ur-Bock, since 1378, is the source of this successful SNAB beer. Once started as "bread for monks" and has now grown into a bumpy, but highly valued Donkey who likes to hit the same stone twice.

(Draught at In de Wildeman, Amsterdam, 26 Feb 2014) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of dark bread, dried fruit (raisins, prunes) and toasty malt. Malty taste with dark bread, roasted malt, raisins, prunes and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Well balanced and tasty doppelbock. Nice one.

Good strong bock beer with lots of spices and herbs. Tasty, but I like their eisbock more.

75 cl. bottle @ my parents, shared with my father, bought @ Mitra. Dark brown with a big beige head. Powerfull roasted malts aroma with lots of hops, pepper and dried fruits. Upon tasting some chocolate notes are apparant and a good bitter hop presence. Great aftertaste, great beer. Probably the best bok I tasted this year.

Wässrig maziger Antrunk, wenig getreidig, etwas muffig. Das Bier bleibt laff und kann keine würzigen Aromen freisetzen, erst zum Ende wird das Malz etwas intensiver, da ist es aber fast schon zu spät. Naja... 10/7/8/8/8/8

Bottle at ’t Arendsnest, Amsterdam. A 2008 bottle. Cloudy brown beer, small tan head, Light palate - slightly soft and slightly dry. The malt has a semi aged feel. Finishes with an odd apple and pears note and a carbonated bite. Maybe this bottle is a tad too old or is just an odd (but quite drinkable) beer?
