Ezelenbok is a sturdy and emphatically hopped Doppelbock. Einbecker Ur-Bock, since 1378, is the source of this successful SNAB beer. Once started as "bread for monks" and has now grown into a bumpy, but highly valued Donkey who likes to hit the same stone twice.

Bottled at PBF. Cloudy rust colour, beige creamy head. Caramelly toffee aroma. Sweet and toffeeish. Buttery and fruity with medium body. Just caramel - not much else. Low bitterness.

Bottled (PBF, BB 08/2008). Ruby color, small beige head. Spicey (clove) and a bit caramelly aroma. Flavor has light grassy hops, caramel/candy sugar, some strange bean notes. Yeasty, grassy, caramelly aftertaste. Not very interesting.

On tap @ ’t Arendsnest. Deep brown colour, creamy off-white head. Aroma of raisins, chocolate and deep roasted malts. Flavour is likewise with some caramel. The roasted flavours linger. This is just the way I like my bock!According to the bartender this year’s version was less good than last year, so I’m very curious how good this stuff can get.

2012-11-09, draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 7-5-7-3-14=36
Dark mahogany color with creamy head. This beer has a good caramel and dark caramel character, mature, with a light nutty touch and aroma of cereals. Pleasant.
2007-11-02, Papsoe Blind Tasting, corked bottle, 4-3-5-2-8=22
Hazy red mahogany color. Very boring beer, with some round caramel flavor, and that’s all.
