Bottle at home. Aroma of dark bready malt, nuts, raisins, hint of chocolate, some liuorice, some coffee. Flavour is medium sweet with a light bitter finish. Body is medium. A fine, well-balanced Doppelbock.

Schönes dunkles Rotbraun im Glas, in der Nase Malz. Im Trunk ebenso intensiv, leicht Schoko, röstig, gut trinkbar, passt.

Chosen best Dutch bock beer in 2001 and 2002. This is the first autumn bock beer of 2003. Still very young. Only a slight maltaroma with just a hint of caramel and milk. Sweetish, malty flavor with some licorice and roasted malt. Caramel and a hint of butter. Very nice beer that already has depth, but should further gain in complexity when maturing. Another well made SNAB beer. (7 3 7 4 14 = 3.5) 2004 version, sold as "ouwe bok" by Mitra Hengelo in december 2005, tasted january 3 2006. Steady frothy head. Malt, cinnamon and laurel in the aroma. Malty, hoppy, flowery flavor with laurel and a touch of licorice and caramel. Full bodied. Exquisit bockbeer. (7 4 8 4 15 = 3.8) 2005 version, sold as "jonge bok" by Mitra Hengelo, tasted january 4 2006. Buttery, malty aroma with laurel. Creamy, hoppy flavor with caramel and laurel. Sweetish with pure chocolate and roasted malt. Just a touch of yeast. Characterful quality beer that could easily be described as an abbey double ale. 2006 version, tap Café ’t Arendsnest Amsterdam. Sweet flavor with licorice, chewing gum , laurel and roasted malt. 2007 version, tap ’t Arendsnest Amsterdam. Malt and a hint of cherry sweets in the aroma. Malty sweetish flavor with cinnamon and a hint of raspberry. Some roast coming up in the long aftertaste. Good!

Fles gedeeld met Roelzie1986. Het is een troebel roodbruin bier met een medium schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige geur. De smaak is moutig, gebrand, caramel met hints van koffie.

From a 75 cl bottle bought at the Deen supermarket in Lelystad. Lot of pressure upon opening, but no gusher. Very thick and frothy, thickly lacing, whipped cream-like, dense and stable head sitting atop a rusty burgundy, deep brown beer, clear and translucent. Aroma of hazelnuts, toasted brown bread, caramel, soap, dried banana, blue plums, black pepper, dried orange peel, jute, caramelized sugar, dry autumn leaves, butterscotch, clove-like phenols, brown rum, liquorice candy. Fruity onset, raisin, fig, overripe plum countered by redcurrant sourishness but sweetness prevails, softish carbo, thick and ’fluffy’, supple body consisting of very caramelly, lightly bitterly toasted and somewhat bready, full malt sweetness, spicy notes here and there, ending with sweet, soft and rich, toasted and caramel maltiness with a dash of leafy, earthy hop bitterness not lasting long (as expected from the style), along with a light bready yeasty touch and a glow of warming, brown rum-like alcohol. Convincing as a ’dunkler Doppelbock’, perhaps a tad too hoppy in the end, but this feature only adds complexity; body is thick and soft enough to feel almost quadrupel-like too. This beer can withstand comparison with some of the German classics (Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel and the like). Classic in terms of style and overall profile, but if you like your beers big and malty, this is surely recommendable.
