Ezelenbok is a sturdy and emphatically hopped Doppelbock. Einbecker Ur-Bock, since 1378, is the source of this successful SNAB beer. Once started as "bread for monks" and has now grown into a bumpy, but highly valued Donkey who likes to hit the same stone twice.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of jbrus. Hazy, dark amber coloured with tiny impurities and a small, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt and a little caramel. Dry finish with a subdued bitterness. A classical although a little uninspired Bock. 021107

From bottle, blind tasting at Papsoes - beer no 21. Pours deep amber with an off-white diminished head. Berry fruity aroma on top of a mild malt base. Flavour holds a medium dry malt flavour with a slight liqourice note. Goes dry and bitter in the finish. Has a bit of nut in the far finish. Goes well together with a slight woody dryness.

Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer ith a thin lazing tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of spices, fruit, and prunes. The flavor is sweet malty and very spicy - with strong notes of star anise - too much for my liking, as well as light notes of alcohol, leading to a dry finish, where the alcohol leaves a slight burn in the throat. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Small offwhite head over deep dark red body. Sweet, fruity syrupy aroma with notes of bread and caramel. Taste is very sweet grainy caramel and licorice with alcohol and spice notes. Dry, spicy licorice aftertaste lingers. Dry bitterness balances the sweetness. Nice. (0.25l on draft.)

Rerate 2007: Last year it was already quite good. This year as well. Had it from tap at Arendsnest. Nice nut-malty taste, good bitterness, some coffee as well. Utrechts bokbierfestival 2005, from tap. The description i gave in the original rating was quite ok, but i think i more liked it this year, so the rating increases from 3.1 to 3.5. Original rating: Clear redbrown color, short frothy head. Fruity, malty aroma, roasted caramel. Roasted taste. Bitter sharp palate.

A nose, influenced by the yeast, no doubt: fruity, even more so in the taste, where the roasted malts are obvious. Some hoptones. better than average bock. Brewed by the Proefbrouwerij in Hijfte, Belgium - SNAB are hiring brewers.
