NL/BEL excursion day 2: at their tasting room in Rotterdam, a small one, keg. Aroma: hay, rather sour. Appearance: clear light amber, 2-3mm. off-white head. Palate: full-bodied and oily, average carbonation; finish is sweet and rather abrupt. Taste: heavily sweet, rock candy; alcohol is well-hidden but overall rather one-dimensional.

On tap at Pelgrim, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is subdued on candied sugar, eaters, and Belgian yeast. Flavour is rather perfumey, with candied sugar, floral notes, and straw. A little estery, lacking the cohesion and precision of a proper tripel. Meh.

Mayflower tripel, the label says. ABV is the same. 75 cl bottle. Gift from Eduard Morshuis from Café Morshuis Albergen, who got this bottle for free at a beer tasting and let me have it because he didn’t really like this beer. If I liked the beer, I should buy the other bottle, he said. Well: deep golden color, big frothy head. Very citric, a bit perfumed aroma. Hoppy, citric, even a bit creamy flavor. Medium long hopbitter aftertaste. Medium bodied. Eduard, I will definitely buy the second bottle!

"nieuw etiket", batch #680, wazig amber met enorme witte kraag(véél te véél), aroma van mout, graan, zoet, Belgische gist, sinaasappel, floraal. smaken van veel alcohol, gist, redelijk (té) zoet, sinaasappel, mout, graan, honing, matige body, zacht maar veel teveel co2.

Tap at De Pelgrim. Almost clear dark golden with short lasting off white head. Banana, cloves, just massive massive spicy yeast notes, cardamom, allspice. Quite some sweet malts with caramel and honey notes. Over medium sweet and under medium spicy bitterness. Over medium bodied with creamy carbonation. Like most of De Pelgrim beers and very decent mouthfeel but very mediocre aroma.
