Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

750 ml bottle. 2015. Huge thanks to beastie for the bottle. Pours black with a cola brown fizz head. Huge aroma of chocolate and bourbon. Flavor is rich and creamy chocolate, with a standout bourbon impression. It’s almost like a bourbon blended stout. Strong, but makes for quite an excellent sipper. Good BAIS.

Bottle at home, 21st May 16. Black minimal head, aroma is bourbon, slight wood. Taste is bourbon forward, booze quite evident, chocolate, loads more bourbon, booze. As it warms it gets better, I am surprised with the high rating, I’ve had hundreds of impys and far better.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. Dark pour, with a coarse espresso head. Smells of alcohol, milk chocolate, anise, champagne yeast. Tastes like sugar, milk chocolate and lactose - pretty underwhelming. Meium body and medium carbonation.
