Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Bottle. 2014. 11.6%. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Nearly black. Thin, dense, lasting, tan head. Leggy in the glass. Nose has boozy, chocolate truffle. Some charred wood. Hint of smoke, maybe. Some vanilla sweetness. Some booze steeped vine fruits. Hint of liquorice. Taste is soft, brown sugar sweet. Woody bitter. The mouthfeel is perfect. Full, but not heavy. Soft carbonation. Really quite clean, and considering the ABV, ridiculously drinkable. Finishes full, silky sweet, chocolatey, and boozy, woody bitter. Lovely beer, and scarily easy drinking.

Sehr dunkel braune Farbe, schöner brauner Schaum. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, alkoholisch, holzig, sprittig. Geschmack stark röstmalzig, süß, reife Früchte, sprittig, krasses Zeug.

Bottle Appellation Wines, Comely Bankers Draught tasting. Blend 6 at 11.6%. Pours dark black brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of coconut, chocolate. Taste is blackcurrant, coconut, light roast. Light sweet finish.

Nærbø Ølfestival 2015. Black colour with no head. Aroma is licorice,chocolate, coffee. Flavour is licorice, alcohol, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oak. full body. Delicious.

This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a slim finger’s worth of head. Light lacing slides into the beer.
The smell starts off with an eloquent sweet roasty coffee bean rolling over subtle notes of sweet cocoa. Dark fruits balance out the aroma.
The taste was moderately sweet running through the roasty portion nicely full and adding a slight bready element. There’s a slight sweet fruity aftertaste running into a dry fruity finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium in body with a fair sessionability about it. I do say it does get pretty dry with a sticky feel rolling about. Carbonation runs fairly light but I think this is a fairly old bottle, so I’m not worried.
Overall, as a Russian Imperial Stout, this works. I could see myself coming back to this.
