bottle/shared@Delirium Hoppy Loft: motor-oil black with a big mocha head, roasted, creamy malts, lots of sweet cocoa, sweet wood, milkchocolate, decent amount of mocha, bourbon, slight liquorice, peppers/pepper in the aftertaste, the pepper is not really hot but really does enhance the flavours & gives a more definite flavour rather than burning component, amazingly balanced

Pitch black color, small brown head. Smell is pretty ok but are there chilipepper in this beer or something? To me it tastes very sharp. Maybe smoked as well. Carbo is decent and body medium. Not bad but a bit weird.

1/2 Bottle @ BrewDog Edinburgh. Black, with dark tan head. Unusual aroma of roasted malt, wine grapes, green peppers, smoky, oak. Taste - unusual mix of roasted malt, dark chocolate, some espresso and smoky peppers (from the chipotle chillies). Perhaps a bit thin for the complex flavours, ABV seems higher than it actually is. Pleasant chilli heat which is not too overwhelming, as I have found with other ’chilli’ beers. Certainly, the choice of smoky chipotle peppers is a good one here. I would like to try this again, even if it’s very pricey.

33cl. Pours dark and opaque with a small head, like a cappuccino (spelling:?) The nose has vanilla then chocolate coming after. The taste is oak tannins being a bit dominant, but then a creamy chocolate/coffee thing following. The palate is drying iniitially because of the oak and this dryness continues. Overall, I think it needs some body to deal with the oaking.

Bottle. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, wood, leather and some notes of smoke and bourbon. The same in the taste, also some chili. A nicely drinkable and pleasant beer.

Black with a brown head. Aroma is hard roasted malt, dark chocolate, peated smoke, chili and vanilla. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and bitter finish, with a somewhat burning sensation from the chili. The burning seems lighter in the barrelled than the regular version, and that’s a good thing. 070411

Bottle at home from Kris Wines, London. Poured a deep dark brown colour with a fading tan head. Strong barrel/bourbon notes in the nose along with some dark chocolate, roast, spice and vanilla. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with gentle carbonation. Flavour retained the bulk of the qualities apparent in the nose with a little smoke and the chili factor very much in the background. There’s a lot packed in here and this is a tasty and characterful brew. Dug it.
