An arabier is a pure malt beer 8°vol/alc brewed with flower Nugget-hops from Poperinge. It has the special dry-hopping taste and aroma, so appreciated by beer lovers all over the world. It is one of the two main beers from De Dolle Brouwers throughout the year. Aging time is limited due to the fact that hop bitterness is declining with the time. Store arabier cool and dark and serve cool at 10°C. Cheers!

Appearance is clear, golden and effervescent, a huge white pillowy head which takes a while to settle. Aroma- banana, candy, syrup, hint of zest, crisp hops, caramel undertones, spices, fresh fruit, slightly grassy. Taste- fruity, lemon zest, fluffy banana, hop bitterness but also a sweetness in there, orange peel, long bitter finish. Very good.

Bottle. Nose is herbal, slightly floral, belgian yeast, some funk, cellar, straw, slight underlying frutiness, of strawberry, melon and a touch of orange. Appealing. Taste leads with medicinal, slightly piney hops, leading to funk, straw, lemon grass, resin, some spice, in the dusty bitter finish. It’s an exceptional beer, with only perhaps the more common use of dry hopping in Belgium taking some of it’s specialness away. I certainly remember this as a revelation the first time I drank it more than a decade ago.

One of the Dolle’s classics, Belgian IPA-ish avant la lettre, a pale orangey blonde, misty beer with an enormous, hops-enhanced, frothy, rocky, stable head leaving thick lacing; can show violent gushing at times. Crisp taste, very fruity, apple, pineapple, peach, white grapes, yeasty spiciness, very pleasantly rounded-bready malts, leading to an assertively grassy, spicy and zesty hop bitter finish, long and very dry with well-hidden alcohol apart from an elegant gin-like afterglow. At its best when fresh from tap at the brewery as it doesn't seem to age very well; but hoppy beers like this should not be aged too much to begin with and I'll enjoy one of these any time even at an older age.

Flasche (33 cl) von Getränkefeinkost, Berlin (abgefüllt 5/2014). - Orangegelb, trüb, mit einer Unmenge grobporigen Schaums. - Nase frisch und scharf hopfenbitter, dazu prononciert säuerlich wie Lambic, mit Pampelmuse und Klee. - Antrunk scharf säuerlich und herb fruchtig wie ein Lambic, mit Orangenschale und sehr trockenem Cidre. Anfangs knochentrocken, doch beim Wärmerwerden meldet sich eine weiche, runde Malzsüße. Mild rezent. Im Abgang wuchtige, leicht modrige Hopfenherbe. Enorm langer, sehr bitterer Nachtrunk. - Nanu - ist das wirklich ein belgisches Starkbier? Das schmeckt und fühlt sich an wie ein Lambic - aber es schmeckt mit jedem Schluck besser!

2014 bottle @ home, thanks to Lukaduke. Pours a cloudy orange appearance with a huge, fluffy cream colored head. Aroma has apple, light banana, toast, white pepper, and pretty heavy floral notes. Pretty enticing. Chewy, doughy mouth feel. Medium full body. Medium light sweetness. Medium high bitterness. Some citrus, apple, pear fruity notes in the flavor. The yeast is just a touch spicy. Finish floral and dry and without any boozy notes. Great beer.

It pours an orange colour with a huge and growing head of foam. Lots of bubble action going on.
The nose is very bitter and hoppy up front suggesting bitter fruit like orange and possibly grapefruit.
The taste is very nice indeed. Power packed with a tasty bitterness of orange zest which reminds me of blood orange kind of bitter. I truly do not get any sort of sweet notes so maybe this is what a fresher bottle brings to the table? Anywho, the somewhat extreme bitterness is working for my palate. As it warms, I do get light spice as in clove and maybe, it will make a turn towards the malt when it gets closer to room temp.

Tap. Pours hazy golden, huge creamy off white head, dissipates slowly, great lacing. Aroma is yeast, honey, grass, pepper, orange zest. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, grassy, a but of citrus, lots of spicy yeast. Lightish body. A bit of graininess. Decent.

Bottle at Staminee De Garre, Brugge, 17/10/14. Lightly hazed golden with a big old off white head that retains well. Nose is yeast esters, citric rind, earthy hop, herbal tones, straw, lemon peel, spice. Taste comprises earthy notes, lemon rind, faint metallic leanings, nettles. Medium bodied, fine carbonation with a little spritz, hint of booze in the close. Ok Belgo but doesn’t do a whole lot for me.
